Soo.. I had this case involving a domestic violence restraining order. On the face of it, it was an extreme uphill battle, sometimes feeling unwinnable. One of those cases that keep you up at night. Hard working, loving Dad that made some mistakes in the PAST. fast forward to the break-up years after the mistakes Mom was throwing the past in his face. The temporary order was professionally supervised visitation with his young daughters after they had been co-sleeping with Mom... and Dad every night and Dad had Sunday morning donuts every Sunday, just he and his daughters. Then COVID hits and court closure. All of Dad's court's dates are pushed out months, with only professionally supervised visitation. Even though Dad was paying over $3000 a month to the supervisors to see his girls, he never missed a visit. Mom denied all settlement requests and we finally get our day in Court for a full-day evidentiary hearing. The hope at the very least was to get professionally supervised visits lifted. After both sides presented a well-prepared case, thankfully the Court saw through Mom's motives and made an order that the Court stated it "had never made before". The Court found that there had been some incidents in the past but agreed with my closing argument to "not slap this young man now for mistakes in the past, given all that he has voluntarily done to change his life. Dad owned his mistakes and made clear through testimony how he has changed and utilized every resource available to him to help himself." Dad walked away with overnight visits EVERY week and EVERY Friday to Saturday that were not required to be supervised. These were just interim orders to get him to his custody hearing. Within a month of the hearing mom agreed to nearly a 50/50 schedule and the parties are on the path to healthy co-parenting. MAJOR WIN!

I had a client come in my office about 6 months ago to tell me her story. Through our conversation she realized she was in fact experiencing domestic violence. She learned she has options and hope and she doesn’t have to endure more domestic violence while she tried to separate from her abuser. The next few months included FIVE days of testimony that included police officer testimony and other witnesses. My client stood strong and told her story.
