Friday Night Vespers October 17, 2020 Our guest speaker tonight was Pastor Jason North, Associate Pastor of the Oakwood University Church. As a DAP Counselor, he had never toured the Recovery Home. Therefore, we invited his wife, Angie, and him to dinner before Vespers. The guys prepared a scrumptious meal and we all dined sufficiently.... At Vespers , Pastor North’s key text was Psalm 51:1-3, David’s prayer for mercy and forgiveness. We understood more clearly the reason David was called a man after God’s own heart. David was so sorry that he let God down. He chased after God’s heart, trying to possess it. He wanted to be in the bosom of God. How could he get back into the grace of God? How could he get God to love him more? He pursued God’s heart. He did not want to play with God. He refocused and kept chasing after God’s heart. After the joy of God’s salvation was restored and a willing heart to obey Him, he promised to teach transgressors His ways and knew sinners would return to Him. Pastor North’s message to the men was to stop going through the motions of changing their lives. Like David, chase after God’s heart; no faking in their recovery. Consider deep soul searching. Sincerely ask, Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new, right spirit within me. Don’t ask me to leave your presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and grant me a willing heart to obey you. Psalm 51:10-12 What a powerful message! Our prayer is that these men will adhere to it. As a role model, a man formerly addicted to drugs, Pastor North is highly respected by these men. They love him and know that he can relate and help them change their lives. What a blessing!

Good Neighbors October 15, 2020 We are so blessed to have superb neighbors here at Belmont Place. ... Terri Curtin, across the street, gave me at least 10 handmade dish clothes about 12 years ago after we moved into the neighborhood. They were my favorite and I have used them all these years. My last two were in shreds. She stopped by to see us and I showed them to her. Guess what! The next day she brought me these five colorful ones. I was so grateful that I sent her a thank you card and some cookies. She sent me the following message: Thank you sweet neighbor for the yummy cookies. I was happy to share my dish clothes with you and expected nothing in return. Just to see how happy they made you was all I needed. The cookies will be enjoyed by both of us. Sherry Bolte, lives a few blocks away from us. We attend weekly Bible Study together with two other neighbors. Yesterday was our first Bible study since March due to COVID-19. She brought the three of us a bouquet of daisies that she grew in her backyard. So thoughtful and kind of our friend. It gives me pleasure to share my sweet blessings from God, showing how much He loves me. Isn’t He wonderful!

Tennessee Aquarium October 13, 2020 We enjoyed our road trip to Tennessee Aquarium today. The weather was perfect, the scenery was beautiful and the pictures show the pleasurable time we had. We ate lunch at a fast food diner and stopped at Ben and Jerry’s for ice cream. What a treat!... We are now revitalized and ready to finish our tasks this week. God is faithful and gives us the strength to continue our work here at DAP. Thank you for your prayers and support.

Sabbath Trip to Tennessee October 3, 2020 We left Alabama early this morning driving to Tennessee. It was 48 degrees and the weather was foggy. But as you can see, it turned out to be a beautiful Sabbath day. ... After attending church with Lonny and Linda Shattuck, we celebrated Linda’s birthday at their home. We prepared the food and she thoroughly enjoyed it. Lonny made a birthday cheese cake, her favorite, and it was simply delicious. After lunch, Linda and the guys took a nature trail walk. At the pond, they skipped rocks and admired the fish and birds. Most enjoyable! We thank God for the Sabbath day of rest each week.

New DAP Project October 1, 2020 The Lawn Care Supervisor of the development where we live, Belmont Place, hired DAP to paint the mail boxes for our neighbors. There are over 100 homes here and so far we have 30 mailboxes to paint. Please pray that we will get more. ... The men have done lawn work and pressure washing for the neighbors before and they were pleased with their work. This paint job is a nice change and they are enjoying the task. We thank God for this additional income for the ministry. A brochure is given to each family to let them know about DAP. You never know - someone here might need our help for their loved ones.

Friday Night Vespers September 25, 2020 Our guest speaker tonight was Andrea Battles joined by his wife, Chanel. They were just married two weeks ago. Our son, London, and Andrea are friends. He recently moved to Alabama and London knew his testimony would be encouraging to the men.... Andrea started using marijuana as a teenager. At the same time he was introduced to pornography by finding a Playboy magazine at his home. His life spiraled down from that point. He also contracted diabetes at the age of 14. After being married 13 years with two children, his extramarital affairs and cocaine addiction destroyed his home. Heavy into drugs, he allowed a two-month infection from an ulcer on his foot to cause the amputation of his leg. He has rededicated his life to Jesus and is determined to take back what the devil has stolen and then some. He said he wants to take every person to heaven with him. He admonished the men not to devalue themselves because God has a great plan for their lives and the devil does not want them to fulfill it. They must cling to Jesus and He will change their lives. Testimonies like these encourage the men to follow Jesus all the way and never turn back.

DAP Food Drive September 20, 2020 DAP will be giving food away each Friday at the Recovery Home, 5101 Meridian Street, Huntsville. Cliff and the guys designed the signs and placed them in the yard to direct people to the home. ... On Friday, our first day, we distributed over 40 bags of groceries in less than two hours. DAP brochures were personally given to each driver to share information about the ministry. Two people mentioned loved ones who were on drugs and was pleased to know that we are here to help. Please pray that we will not only supply food but share the love of God to those who are seeking truth.
