RSVP to: https://bit.ly/EventbriteWSPA WSPA's Nutcracker production has been a long-standing holiday tradition in our community and has introduced generations of people especially Filipino American youth to the theater.... Many students were inspired by dance by "The Nutcracker Ballet". This year's Nutcracker production includes several never-before-seen features: a real-life family plays the Stahlbaum's two home-trained young male dancers' debuts in the key roles of Snow King and Cavalier WSPA's very own director, Malu Rivera-Peoples comes out of dance retirement to perform the role of Mother Ginger Westlake School for the Performing Arts (WSPA) was founded in 1991 in Daly City by Malu Rivera-Peoples and Karen Dycaico. Its programs include pre-professional training in classical ballet, pointe, character and variation classes. It also offers ethnic dance classes in Russian and Polynesian traditions and a department of Broadway and musical theater classes. Tap, jazz and hip hop are also offered to all levels of ability. WSPA is extremely proud of its students and programs. Fully understanding that not all will pursue a career in the performing arts, WSPA's legacy of hard work, discipline, and putting your best food forward will always stay with them for a lifetime. These are the factors that make WSPA a unique and valuable addition to our community. Here is a link to the official trailer: https://youtu.be/tl-7fnkgQ8k #wspanutcracker2020

Last night, Daly City Arts & Culture Commission launched its first virtual series called "Artists Dialogue". We will host an Artist Dialogue every 2nd Tuesday of the month. Our Daly City Artist Dialogue is a way for us to learn from local, national and global artists who can give us multiple approaches and perspectives of art and culture. Verma Soria Zapanta was our first featured artist and took us on a photographic journey in (re)learning and re-membering the medicine ...of our ancestors with "Hinumdumi ang imong tambal || Remember your medicine" It was a beautiful offering to our community and I want to thank Verma Zapanta for helping us remember our medicine and bringing out memories of our ancestors. https://youtu.be/Zj0sT3j68bA
Please join us for a splendid dialogue with artist Verma Zapanta on Tuesday, October 13 at 7pm. Please register prior to event.
Please check out our Daly City’s Arts & Culture Commission Facebook page. This is one of the many amazing projects that we have worked on. There’s so much more to come.
Collaboration is key in building authentic relationships with our community. In 2018, Daly City Arts and Culture Commission partnered with Professor Amir Esfahani, his Painting 1&2 students and the CIPHER program at Skyline College to create murals on Daly City Utility Boxes. This video demonstrates the purpose and process of our collaboration. Enjoy https://youtu.be/ZyXb4TNcRvM

This is a pretty neat activity to do with artwork while we shelter in place. After all, someone did once say that Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. https://www.sadanduseless.com/recreated-art/
Here is a website that lists 12 famous museums that offer virtual tours. Pretty awesome. https://www.travelandleisure.com//museums-with-virtual-tou

I’ve had the opportunity and privilege of working with an amazing group of women on the Arts and Culture Commission of Daly City. I’m excited about all the wonderful work it has accomplished within the last year and I can’t wait to see what the next year brings. I am particularly delighted to congratulate Arlene Sudaria Daus-Magbual, vice-chair of the Arts and Culture Commission, for being presented with the Mayor’s Citizen of the Year award, 2018. So well-deserved!
I hope to see you tomorrow at the opening reception of Aloha California featuring artist Laurie Rodriguez.
