An announcement from Custom Made Theatre Co (San Francisco): Earlier today, we announced the broadcast of our last show that had a full run at the Custom Made Theatre at 533 Sutter Street, "How to Transcend a Happy Marriage". We have one other piece of news to share tonight. As of August 31st, Custom Made Theatre is no longer the proprietor of this 99-seat theatre. We were at the end of our lease and, given that we do not know when we can produce a live show for a full audien...ce again, we have chosen not to renew. Instead, when we can produce again, we are excited to announce that we will be in residency at the Phoenix Theatre. The Phoenix is only one block away on Mason & Geary Street. The Phoenix’s main space is a 49-seat thrust theatre (almost a round), which will bring our patrons even closer to the action than at Sutter Street. We are looking forward to seeing what collaborations can come of this joining of small theatre forces. It would be untruthful to say that this announcement doesn’t come with mixed emotions. The impact of the virus has made this year more challenging than we could imagine. We were very fond of our little theatre and took pride in running our own space. I want to acknowledge we had outstanding assistance from Community Vision and our pro bono representative at the Gibson, Dunn, & Crutcher law firm. Still, sadly we were unable to reach an agreement with our landlord that would get us through reopening after COVID. I have personally spent most of these last two months dealing with these negotiations, and then moving out of the space. We produced 27 mainstage shows and countless readings and events over this short amount of time, so there was a lot to sort through and many great memories. Part of this decision to move was to ensure that our collective capacities are invested where they are most needed. We will now be a more agile and responsive organization to address the urgent issues facing our field. We will be gathering in the next months to answer the demands of We See You White American Theatre and The Living Document. We are excited about this opportunity to work towards becoming an anti-racist theatre and a more equitable organization. Thanks for reading. And thank you for supporting the small theatre in this most challenging time, whether you are an artist, administrator, or patron. If you want to help out with our considerable costs from the move, please buy a ticket to TRANSCEND’s viewing: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/119168280535 . Or if you can be even more generous, please donate here on Facebook or on our website: https://www.custommade.org/annual-fund/ Wishing everyone health and safety, Brian Brian Katz Executive Artistic Director Custom Made Theatre Co.

Exciting news! Custom Made has received permission to broadcast our Jan/Feb '20 (pre-COVID, remember then?) production of Sarah Ruhl's HOW TO TRANSCEND A HAPPY MARRIAGE. We're so thrilled. TRANSCEND received a leaping-man from the Chron (highest rating) and was an enormous hit. Due to contractual restrictions, It will be live for three days only!... Pay-what-you-can "tickets" are $10-$50. Half of the profits will go to the cast and creative team.
