We are having so much fun at Skate Oakland and we love watching these girls make progress every week!

Skate Oakland's Fall 2017 session began last Thursday and we are so excited to meet our new participants. They have already started receiving both homework help and ice skating instruction and they are doing GREAT! We can't wait to watch their progress!

Skate Oakland, a FREE afterschool program for Oakland girls between the ages of 10 and 14, is now accepting applications for Fall 2017. The program meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 PM to 6:45 PM at the Oakland Ice Center Operated by Sharks Ice and provides figure skating instruction and tutoring. There are so many foundational skills that you develop on the ice that I still find myself using every single day, Hughes said. It’s everything from persistence to rebounding from failure, working hard and working with people. There’s just so much to learn from skating.

Skate Oakland is dedicated to cultivating educational, physical, and social skills for youth using figure skating as the bridge to excellence. We are partnering with the Oakland Ice Center Operated by Sharks Ice to provide girls from underserved communities with figure skating instruction, academic mentorship, and a supportive environment to foster a healthy lifestyle, increased self-esteem, a sense of personal empowerment, and a pathway to achievement.
