In honor of National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, the Cal State LA University Police Department would like to extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation to our Dispatch personnel for all of their hard-work and dedication.

Congrats to Officer Ricardo Pena for being one of several CSU Police Officers recently awarded medals of commendation by CSU Chancellor, Timonthy P. White. It was truly an honorable ceremony! Officer Pena received the Life Saving Medal for his heroic acts while on duty when he responded to a call of a campus community member having difficulty breathing. Upon arrival, Officer Pena realized the patient was not breathing and immediately began administering CPR, which proved ...difficult because the patient was a quadriplegic secured in a motorized wheelchair. Officer Pena continued CPR until paramedics arrived. The patient began responding to CPR and was transported to a local hospital where he fully recovered and has since returned to our community. Today, at 10:17 a.m. Cal State LA will be participating in the Great California ShakeOut drill. At exactly 10:17 a.m. a campus-wide emergency notification, Eagle Alert, will be sent out with instructions to drop, take cover and hold on for two minutes. At 10:19 a.m. alarms will sound indicating occupants are to evacuate to the pre identified assembly points. Occupants will be allowed back into the buildings once their building alarm has been silenced.

The men and women of the Cal State LA Police Department extend our deepest condolences to the family of California Highway Patrol Officer Andre Moye and his fellow officers during this difficult time. Officer Moye was shot and killed yesterday afternoon while conducting a traffic stop in Riverside. Fellow law enforcement officers arrived to assist him and were able to engage the suspect, who ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
