My name is Jashley Paguio, and I'm a graduate nursing student in an Entry- Level Master of Science in Nursing Clinical Nurse Leader program at the University of San Francisco, Orange County campus. I'm in my final semester and currently completing my internship at Children's Hospital Orange County. I plan to take the NCLEX (board exam to get my registered nurse license) and apply to new grad programs and RN jobs within the next couple months. My long term goal is to become a ...NICU nurse and advance my studies with a doctorate in nursing practice specializing in the neonatal nurse practitioner track. I'm an avid learner and am truly passionate to learn everything about neonates! I was part of the COPE Health Scholars Program (aka Clinical Care Extender Program) from Dec 2013- August 2018 as a Health Scholar (Clinical Care Extender), Pre- Admission Testing Department Coordinator, and Director of Departmental Operations at St. Francis Medical Center. Some of my fondest memories of the COPE program include training incoming scholars on how to assist with feeding a patient and teaching everyone the PPE dance. I'm honored to give back to COPE, especially since I credit COPE for directing this once lost Cal alumna to her calling in nursing! We appreciate everything you did for the program! We are so proud of you and believe that you will be an amazing nurse!! Jashley will be taking over our IG on Friday! Tune in if you want to hear more about her journey, ask live questions, or get to know Jashley.

Let's talk about Letters of Recommendation! Most medical schools require three letters - two from science professors and one from a humanities or extra-curricular supervisor. These letters should be from people who know you and your value in the medical community exceptionally well. The best letters come from trust, personal connection, and familiarity. This could be from a favorite professor who knows you and your goals well or a COPE Health Solutions Program Manager who you've developed a professional relationship with and sees your passion for medicine every day. That said, getting a great letter of rec is not easy - they require time and effort both on you and your recommenders part. So plan early, build strong connections, and solidify your place within the medical community!

Applying to the COPE Health Scholar Program at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach is one of the best decisions I ever made during my undergraduate career at UC Irvine. It was such an enriching experience! Working directly with staff and patients provided me with the foundation I needed to carry into my medical career as a student doctor. As a member of the Leadership Team, I gained invaluable experiences and connected with wonderful like-minded peers. Something as small as learn...ing formulas for Microsoft excel was applicable to other aspects in my life. I was able to turn a completely old-fashioned paper trail system to a fully electronic record for my family's business through this knowledge. Like they always say, what you put in, is what you get out of it. I can certainly attest to that. You never know until you try! So, I highly recommend you give it a try. -Angela Ho So great to see our alumni thriving! In addition to all this, Angela has a blog where she provides a lot of great resources for pre-meds. She will be taking over our account on Tuesday to share some insight. Follow us and stay tuned! #predmed #medicalstudent #copehealthscholars #healthcare #professionaldevelopment @angelal.ho

BEFORE, NOW, AFTER. There has been, still are, and will always be challenges that we have to face. We understand that life happens outside of shifting. Sometimes it can be difficult. What you decide to make of a difficult situation is up to you. Instead make them opportunities. Leave a comment on an experience that relates to having gone through something difficult but turned out to be one of the greatest opportunities you’ve had. #healthscholar #healthscholars #medschool #hcsm #medstudent #healthcare #healthcarestudent #youngdoctor #medlife #premed #prenursing #nurse #hospital

As we celebrate Men’s Health Week, we encourage men to take control of their health, and for the communities to recognize the disparities among citizens of varying ethnic and cultural backgrounds and support and promote good health for everyone, despite gender identity, sexual orientation or race. COPE Health Scholars is committed to helping our health system partners meet the needs of their patient communities. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital (MLKCH), one of our California hospital partners, serves a safety-net population of more than 1 million highly vulnerable people in South Los Angeles and is faced with proposed state budget cuts. We know the state of California has had to make very really difficult decisions around the budget due to revenue shortfalls... and unexpected expenses precipitated by the Covid-19 epidemic; however the proposed budget cuts to MLKCH would be devastating to the people in that community who need MLKCH and its health care services more than ever. Please help us raise awareness and take a moment to see how you can help. https://www.mlkch.org/UncertainFuture

As providers quickly build on their #telehealth and #remotepatientmonitoring capabilities, they must develop stronger partnerships with each other, the payers, and community groups; these efforts will be foundational to their clinical integration and network development strategies. How can your efforts in telehealth come together for a clinical integration strategy? How should you be re-evaluating your networks, as we expect to see an increase in Medicaid patients? How might ...your network change, as small provider groups could be forced into early retirement or may close as a result of #covid19? Missed the webinar? View this recording to learn how you can deliver the right care, support physicians, and further strategic objectives during the Covid-19 crisis. http://ow.ly/jafg50zFo57 #copehealthsolutions #healthcare #coronavirus #hospitals #clinics #healthsystems #publichealth #populationhealth #physicians #medicaid #valuebasedcare

As we kick off #nationalnursesweek and #nationalnursesday COPE Health Scholars is grateful for the tireless dedication and work of nurses across the country. We want to recognize and give appreciation to the nurses and frontline health care workers who put their own health at risk to save the lives of patients every day. There are currently over 3 million nurses working in the US and this number is just expected to grow. These nurses are serving at the frontlines of the #Cov...id-19 pandemic. We know that already over 9,000 health care workers, including numerous nurses, have contracted Covid-19 in the US alone. Help us say thank you to all of these amazing nurses and consider supporting organizations looking to supply additional PPE for our health care workers to protect them. Check them out below and see how you can say thanks to a nurse this week. #thankyounurses #findthemasks Findthemasks.com DonatePPE.org #thankyouhealthcareworkers #healthcare #copehealthscholars #healthscholar #healthscholars #prenursing #prehealth #nurses #nurse
