THROW BACK THURSDAY Vintage Recipes!!! It looks like Carlton may have already looked at some of these Vintage recipes! We did get a little carried away, but it was so hard to decide which recipes to include because many had memories and stories attached to them! EMOTIONS ~ A Day In the Life of a Caregiver. When a Senior loved one in the family requires care,statistics are upwards to over 80% another family member will be involved in providing most if not all of the care for that family member. This is an excellent article of a family member who is also the caregiver and the emotions they run through during their day. Most people do not realize no matter how rewarding it is to care for a Senior loved one, it is also very challenging a...t times. If you have a family member or friend who is providing most or all of the caregiving for someone, THEY SOMETIMES NEED A BREAK! Make sure either other family members or friends are available to relieve the primary family member caregiver or retain RESPITE care to cover for them so they have down time to take care of personal business or to just take a break and rest. AND make sure the family caregiver knows how much they are appreciated! Check in, tell them how important what they are doing is, bring by dinner once a week, gift cards, thoughtful gifts, anything that says thank you! Give them your time and sometimes they just need someone to talk to! FACEBOOK for our Senior loved ones! The picture below is my 82 year young mom, and she is on her Smart phone which she now uses to check her Facebook account! How important is Facebook for Seniors? Well, very important! It connects them with family, friends, finds old friends, and keeps them up to date with what is going on in areas they are interested in! Pictures she would never have seen of family who live all over the state as well as pictures of grandchildren and great-g...rand children. Last year she even connected with a friend from High School after over 60 years! My mom prefers using her cell phone but many other Seniors who may or may not have a Smart phone also enjoy Facebook on their computers. Either or both works! So, click on the article, and talk to the Senior loved ones in your life and see if they would like to try Facebook. It is easy to set up for them, send out Friend requests to get them started. (I also suggest you check their friends list because one time I noticed a very in shape and tan young man not wearing a shirt on my mother's friends list which I promptly removed! She didn't want to be rude so she accepted his request because he might be related to someone or someone when to school with him!) In all honesty I have to disclose, my mother for 2 years said she wasn't interested in that Facebook stuff! Finally, I set up her account, put the app on her cell phone, and for the past 2 years she checks it often to see what is happening! I have also 'liked' some pages for her, but I will cover that in another post tomorrow on Facebook. TASTY TUESDAY! Crock Pot time! One of the best inventions for caregivers! We can feed our family; we can feed our clients, and never miss a beat with our own Senior loved ones! It is a time saver and there is nothing better than walking into your own home after a busy day and smells of a delicious dinner waiting for us. Another reason we love Crock Pot cooking is we can put together meals to be cooked that day or in the freezer for another day. It is also great for cooking no...urishing oatmeal breakfasts for the week, a Senior favorite sweet potatoes which will keep in the refrigerator for several days. Stopping by mom and dads/grandma and grandpas, take the crock pot with dinner already inside and just plug in when you get there. Mom and dad/grandma and grandpa will enjoy their home filling up with the smell of dinner during the day as well as a delicious dinner. With some planning, we can prepare ahead of time complete dinners for the freezer which our Senior loved ones can just take out and put in the Crock Pot ready to cook! Oh, and we included instructions on how to finally clean out the inside of your Crock Pot under the dish! It will look almost brand new!
