This action will help protect critical care for patients. Due to the critical need to stop the #COVID19 surge, state campground sites in the San Joaquin and So Cal regions will temporarily close. Affected reservation holders will be contacted by ReserveCalifornia via email. Cancellations and refunds will be automatic. Day use areas in park units currently open to the public will remain open. California State Parks is honoring the service of veterans, as well as active and reserve personnel, by offering free admission to 133 state parks on Veterans D...ay, Wednesday, Nov. 11. A valid military ID or a California driver’s license identifying the individual as a veteran must be shown to park staff for free admission. With the new COVID-19 curfew order, we can imagine that many of you are wondering if it has any impact to camping in the State Parks System. Since campsites have standard quiet and curfew hours, the curfew will not impact your camping experience. Additionally, current guidelines do not allow visitors to congregate with others outside their immediate household. #COVID19 is spreading quickly, creating even more dangerous conditions for essential workers that take care of us through this crisis. Live Virtual Event: Re-dedication Event for Allensworth Historic State Park on Saturday, October 10th at 11:00am. Presented by the Friends of Allensworth in co-opertation with California State Parks. This annual re-dedication is presented to renew the commitment of the citizens of California to help the Department of Parks and Recreation preserve the history of the ethnically diverse contributions made in the development of the state of California and our nation. Our program includes: Panel discussion regarding the history, present and future of Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park.

On Sunday, a volunteer crew consisting of community members and the Friends of Allensworth cleared brush from the Allensworth Cemetery where many of the early residents of the town are buried. These volunteers did a fantastic job! This historic cemetery is located approximately two miles southwest from Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park.

William and Louise Dotson and their four children - Kenneth, Gladys, Harold and Walter - arrived in Allensworth in 1911. The Dotson's came to Allensworth from Oakland, where both parents had been in business. William was a saloon-keeper. Louise worked as a hair dresser. In 1914, William Dotson was elected constable of Allensworth. The Dotson's opened a restaurant in the front part of their house in the latter part of 1914 or early 1915.

This month marks the centennial of the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution granting women the right to vote in U.S. elections. California's State Constitutional Amendment No. 4 (woman's suffrage) was approved by California voters on October 10, 1911. These images of the Great Register of Tulare County from 1912 list the women living in Allensworth who registered to vote that first year after women's suffrage was approved by the California electorate.
