Big pat on the back for Santa Clara Co. CWA helped pass both a county ordinance and then state law requiring drug and sharps companies to pay for collection. In the first year Sta Clara. Co collected over 74,000 sharps (needles, epi pens, etc). Their goal was just over 32,000. WOW! https://www.sccgov.org//Sharps%20and%20Prescription%20Drug
Drought is a climate change & equity issue for communities across the state. "Unless conditions improve markedly, there will be a lot of groundwater pumping to support the Valley’s cities and farms. #DroughtResiliency #SGMA
If you have 12% of the population behind on their water bills & you expect them to pay within 60 days of the state of emergency being lifted...hundreds of thousands of people having their water shut off." - CWA CA Director Jennifer Clary #KeepTheWaterFlowing
During his confirmation hearing on Wednesday, President Biden’s pick to lead the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Michael Regan pledged to act with a sense of urgency on climate and increase the agency’s focus on science, transparency and combating inequality. https://thehill.com//537236-epa-nominee-regan-pledges-urge
PFAS chemicals are slowly and silently accumulating in our bodies and many of us are completely unaware of the harm being done. Finally, a number of states, including California, are now focused on this crisis and that will help sound the alarm, said California State Senator Ben Allen, (D-Santa Monica). PFAS are threatening the health and well-being of our communities and environment, and I hope this spurs urgency for states like mine to continue to do even more.. Communities depend on clean water for our health and our economy. To #ProtectCleanWater we must repeal the #DirtyWaterRule that risked our drinking water & burdened our taxpayers. @RepPeterDeFazio & @gracenapolitano urge @POTUS to act now: http://bit.ly/2Mrpfxw
