Guess what time it is! The Downtown Christmas tree will be cut and placed tomorrow, November 8th. The Christmas tree is a partnership between The City of Redding, Redding Electric Utility - REU, Dura Crane Inc., Sierra Pacific Industries, Headrick Logging, CHP - Redding and Viva Downtown. The holiday season has always had a special way of bringing the Redding community together and this year will be no different. What is most exciting this season will be seeing the melding o...f old and new Redding. The soon-to-be-paved streets in the new Downtown will come alive with the lighted tree's return to its old location - where it lived every year before the streets were closed to account for the old mall. The annual Christmas Tree Lighting will take place Friday, December 4th and will be hosted by Viva Downtown! #LightedChristmasTree #DowntownRedding #ReddingCalifornia #OldRedding #NewRedding #OldMeetsNew #VintageRedding #TheCityOfRedding #DowntownStreetCirculationProject #ThingsToLookForwardTo #GoodThingsAreComing

Kathy Key, of Team Juniper Friends and Family, put in some serious work for Healthy Shasta’s Walktober Challenge 2020. Her efforts secured her spot as the top i...ndividual walker this year! With a total of 814,978 steps in just 31 days, she earned $500 toward a local charity of her choice. Kathy has decided to give her prize money to One SAFE Place Shasta. One Safe Place is a local multi-service agency that is dedicated to providing legal services, safety, shelter and emotional support to intimate partners, children and seniors affected by domestic violence and sexual assault. The non-profit organization partners with several other local organizations to provide a one-stop shop for clients, volunteers, social workers, bystanders and donors working together to end violence in Shasta County. Yes Of the 82 units available, 81 will specifically be dedicated to meeting the community’s need for affordable housing, in the form of one, two and three-bedroom units. For the moment, it looks like a large, graded dirt lot, but there is plenty going on behind the scenes at California Street Mixed Use Development. At the north end, between Tehama and Butte Streets, Modern Builders is working with Conco, the parking structure subcontractor, to prepare the footings for the development of the 398 space multi-level parking structure. Between Butte and Yuba Streets, which will be the home of the affordable housing project, the developer is in t...he final stages of the Building Division’s plan check process. Construction is expected to begin the week of November 9th. At the south end, between Yuba and Placer Streets, the surface parking lot is already in full swing. In order to provide the utmost support for the Downtown businesses, The City encourages a 2-hour time limit in this parking lot. If you need to park for more than two hours, please use one of the outlying parking lots and DASH into the downtown core. More information on DASH pick up times and locations can be found at www.cityofredding.org/dash.
