Grass isn’t the only new thing popping up around here! We have new annual parking passes for the new year! If you would like to purchase one you can buy them from a park ranger in Sycamore Grove Park, or via phone by calling (925)373-5700. They last all year long (until December 31st 2021) and they make a great holiday gift for loved ones and friends! #sycamoregrovepark #larpd #livermore #parkingpass #livermoreopenspace

Just like this Western Pond Turtle we all need to take a break every once in a while. This is a reminder that there will be no Valley Wilds newsletter for December due to some recent changes in staff. However, it will be back and ready to read in January of 2021! If you are looking for the December events taking place in the park they are listed in the November Valley Wilds newsletter! The link to that is in our bio or you can find the events online at https://www.larpd.org/open-space-newsletter. Enjoy! We hope to see you at the events too! #larpd #sycamoregrovepark #livermore #nature

We are fortunate to live on a beautiful planet. There are amazing things everywhere waiting to be discovered. You just have to remember to slow down and look. Today is Ranger Amy's last day working in Sycamore Grove Park. If you would like to say goodbye, she plans to be in the native garden from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. today. Please wear a mask and give your hugs verbally not physically. No gifts except your well wishes. #sycamoregrove #sycamoregrovepark #livermore @larpd_livermore @larpd_foundation

PG&E ran into delays and their work on the towers in Sycamore Grove and Holdener Parks will continue through the weekend. We hope to be able to reopen on Tuesday October 20th. If you are looking for a place to recreate this weekend East Bay Regional Park district's Arroyo del Valle staging area at the end of Arroyo Road should be open.

We know you love Sycamore Grove and Holdener Parks but please plan to recreate elsewhere this weekend: PG&E ran into some issues that have delayed the completion of the work scheduled for this week. SGP and Holdener will remain closed this weekend and through Monday. If all goes well we will re-open on Tuesday Oct. 20. We know this is disappointing news... We are sad too! @larpd_livermore @larpd_foundation #sycamoregrove #sycamoregrovepark #livermore

Many people have expressed concern about the creek in Sycamore Grove Park being dry this summer and fall. In this educational video, Rangers Amy and Gilbert explore the concept of groundwater! What is groundwater? How deep would we have to go to reach it? Can the trees get water from it?... This videowas inspired by long time Tri-Valley water advocate Dave Lunn. If you would prefer a version of this video with closed captions check the comments for a link to this video on YouTube. #sycamoregrove #sycamoregrovepark #livermore #groundwater #watereducation @cleanwaterprog @larpd_livermore @larpd_foundation

We had fun at today's oaks and acorns program! One of the kids found an acorn weevil larva in one of the acorns. We talked about how local Indian tribes carefully used fire to reduce the number of bugs that invaded the acorns the tribes depended on for food. After acorn gathering season was over, they would burn around their favorite oak trees. This would get rid of pupae that would overwinter in the leaf litter. Pupae are the intermediate stage between larva and adult. If the dormant pupae are eliminated that means no beetle-like adults emerging in summer to lay eggs in developing acorns.

REMINDER: PARKS CLOSED OCTOBER 12TH TO 16TH! Sycamore Grove Park and Holdener Park will be CLOSED from October 12th - October 16th as PG&E removes some of the electrical towers from the parks. We apologize for any inconvenience. Other good options for walks and bike rides while we are closed include the Arroyo trail through Robertson Park and many @ebrpd facilities including del Valle which recently reopened for hiking and biking and brushy peak regional Park in North Livermore. PS Just had a conversation with one of the PG&E crew and it seems like the information we had that some of the towers were being removed may be incorrect. According to the employee we talked to today old wire is being replaced with new wire. #sycamoregrove #sycamoregrovepark #livermore @larpd_livermore @larpd_foundation

Well, the good news is we did not meet extreme fire danger conditions today (Tues oct. 6) so the park will be open this evening! HOWEVER, this is a heads up that Sycamore Grove Park and Holdener Park will be CLOSED from October 12th - October 16th as PG&E removes some of the electrical towers from the parks. #sycamoregrove #sycamoregrovepark #livermore @larpd_livermore @larpd_foundation (edited to make it clear only SOME of the towers are being removed)
