Happy and Safe Holidays from the City of Morro Bay We wish you all a Happy and Safe Holiday Season. We have been through some challenging times this year and the citizens of Morro Bay have been doing their part reducing the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Morro Bay has one of the lowest infection rates in San Luis Obispo County and in California and this could not be done without the actions of many in our community. ... This Holiday Season has been extremely hard in our hospitals decreasing the ability of our doctors and nurses keeping our family and friends healthy and alive. The largest people to people spread of COVID-19 is inside our homes to our own family members and friends. This Holiday Season, please consider eliminating any group gatherings, wear your mask, stay the distance, and wash your hands often. If you must have a gathering, keep it outside wearing a mask and staying the distance. Please review our Fire Chief's message and we hope you have a Happy and Safe Holiday Season. https://youtu.be/XzsSA8QxetQ

SLO County discourages traditional trick-or-treating and encourages families to plan for safer alternatives. Some ideas include: - Passing out pre-packed treats on the porch or driveway by setting up a table and hand out candy while wearing your face covering using a candy grabber or tongs to help you keep a safe distance from trick-or-treaters. - Make treat bags. - Host a Halloween watch party online and have a costume contest. - Attend a drive-thru Trunk-or-Treat e...vent. - Attend a contact-free neighborhood scavenger hunt. Annual State Water Maintenance Shutdown Each year around this time the State Water is shut down to perform treatment plant and distribution system maintenance. State Water is the primary source of drinking water for the City of Morro Bay. This year the shutdown is anticipated to run from today October 29th until November 20th. During the shutdown the City will use our groundwater wells from the Morro Valley. The water from these wells will be filtered and treated prior t...o distribution at the City’s Brackish Water Reverse Osmosis (BWRO) treatment plant to reduce nitrate levels and provide disinfection. Customers may experience brief periods of water discoloration and or higher chlorine odor due to the change in chlorine disinfectant. During the shutdown disinfection is accomplished using the free Chlorine method as compared to the Combined Chlorine method used by the State. If discoloration is noticed it is suggested residents flush their faucets to run water through the system. The water department staff will be performing additional testing and hydrant flushing during this time to ensure distributed water meets all treatment and drinking water standards. Please feel free to call Damaris Hanson, Environmental Programs Manager 805-772-6265 or Joe Mueller, Utilities Division Manager 805-772-6300 if you have any questions. See more

Hey Del Mar, Elementary and Family Partnership Charter Kids, Come into the Harbor Street Fire Station to Get This Year’s Fire Prevention Safety Packet! We will have a packet for you Monday thru Friday from 8am to 2pm... This year we are sharing about Serve Up Fire Safety in the Kitchen. Cooking is the leading cause of home fires and home fire injuries. Thanksgiving is the leading day for fires involving cooking equipment. The leading cause of fires in the kitchen is unattended cooking. Stay in the kitchen when you are frying, boiling, grilling, or broiling food. If you are simmering, baking, or roasting food, check it regularly and stay in the home. Always keep a lid nearby when cooking. If a small grease fire starts, slide the lid over the pan and turn off the burner. Leave the pan covered until it is cool. Keep anything that can catch fire away from your stovetop. Loose clothing can hang down onto stove burners and catch fire. Wear short, close-fitting, or tightly rolled sleeves when cooking. Have a kid-free zone of at least 3 feet around the stove and areas where hot food or drink is prepared or carried. Also tell your parents to check your Smoke Detector when they change your clocks on Sunday November 1st In addition, work with your parents in developing a Home Fire Escape Plan by drawing a map, finding two ways out of each room, establishing a meeting place outside, and calling 9-1-1 from a cell phone outside or use a neighbor’s phone. WE are missing you this year at your school, but we understand we all have a responsibility to protect each other during this Pandemic. So please stop by our Harbor Street Fire Station for this year’s Fire Prevention packet and we are looking forward to seeing you at your school next year. Morro Bay Firefighters
