Great news! #Repost @cispes_solidarity United States Congress... U.S. CONGRESS CUTS MILITARY AID TO CENTRAL AMERICA! *español sigue abajo* THANKS TO YOUR GRASSROOTS LOBBYING, THE U.S. CONGRESS RESTRICTED U.S. FOREIGN MILITARY AID TO El SALVADOR, GUATEMALA AND HONDURAS. With these cuts, members of congress are trying to drive home the message that attacking democratic institutions, human rights defenders and the press is not going to fly anymore. We will continue to organize to ensure that the message is loud and clear in the months ahead of the election in El Salvador." - Alexis Stoumbelis, CISPES Executive Director Here’s the text from the bill: (D) FOREIGN MILITARY FINANCING PROGRAM None of the funds appropriated by this Act under the heading ‘‘Foreign Military Financing Program’’ may be made available for assistance for El Salvador, Guatemala, or Honduras.

We will also offer analysis about International Human Rights Day and the failures of the 2-party ...system in the U.S. to meet the needs of our communities. This event will include cultural performances, calls to action and ways to get involved in our campaigns and organizations, and will kickstart a series of teach-ins leading up to the presidential inauguration on January 20th. Check out this timely new episode from the Honduras Now podcast: "Washington's 'New' Investment Plan in Latin America" Background: In 2019, the Trump administration announced the "America Crece" or the "Growth in the Americas" plan for Latin America to counter Chinese investment in the region. In this interview, journalist Jeff Abbott, who investigated the America Crece program, discusses bipartisan support for regional neoliberal development plans and the destructive hydroelectric and other projects they usher in. Infrastructure projects like these, often under policy umbrellas like America Crece, foster corruption and violence, displace communities, and contribute to forced migration throughout Central America.

"The US has always elected a bully, nurtured him and asked him to go out in the world and do the presidential thing: fight the evil that is the rest of us. At the same time they have expected their president to be nice at home, have mercy on their Thanksgiving turkey and keep talking about the American dream and affordable healthcare. Abroad, US presidents have wrought havoc, invaded and destroyed places whose names they could never pronounce, hosted murderous dictators from ...around the world at Camp David and found even more bloodthirsty ones to replace them. Trump has just brought all that bullying home." #EndUSImperialism #NoUSIntervention #DismantleWhiteSupremacy h/t SOA Watch

CISPES- Los Angeles Chapter 07.09.2020

#Repost @cispes_solidarity Español sigue abajo Today, the Committee in Solidarity with the People of El Salvador (CISPES) celebrates the trade union movement of El Salvador on this Day of Salvadoran Labor Unionism. From the United States, we extend a fraternal embrace and our solidarity with their struggle for their rights and to secure a dignified life for all. Only together can we succeed in transforming our world and putting an end to capitalist exploitation.... Long live the trade unionists of El Salvador! Today, we uplift the unions who are out in the streets demanding respect for their right to organize, an end to government layoffs and to stop the militarization of their communities. Our solidarity is urgent - the Salvadoran Ministry of Labor, headed by Rolando Castro, is waging an attack on workers while dolling out favors to pseudo unions loyal to the Bukele administration. Any unions willing to challenge Bukele, and their exploitation as workers, now face overt retaliation and repression. #QueVivaFebe #Díadelsindicalismo #ElSalvador #InternationalSolidarity #solidaritywithworkers See more
