Did you know that human life at Litekyan can be traced back more than 3,500 years to the first people who called our island home? Every period of CHamoru cultur...al history, from initial human settlement in the islands through present day, is represented in the archeological layers at Litekyan. The CHamoru word na’lå’la, meaning to bring life, truly captures the essence of this sacred space. Hints of early existence and signs of life - latte house ruins, broken pottery, and other objects dating to the last time that people inhabited a fully functional latte village during the late 1600s - remain strewn along jungle paths. (Photo by Anthony Tamayo, Jr.) This photo is featured in the book, Lina’la’: Portraits of Life at Litekyan ($42), which launches at the historic Jose P. Lujan House in Hagåtña, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 26.
