I want to thank those who participated in last Tuesday's philosophical inquiry. We enjoyed a brief lecture and discussion on Aristotle's Poetics, free writing exercises meant to induce creative, reflective or critical response, and a shared inquiry into fragments of Karl Jaspers and his work "The Way to Wisdom". Next month we will continue our lecture and discussion of Aristotle, free writing, and enjoy a shared inquiry into the philosopher Novalis and his work Logological F...ragment. If you are reading this you are invited and the event is free. https://www.meetup.com/Silver-Lake-Los-Angeles-Philosoph//

We had a wonderful inquiry into the work of the philosopher Maria Zambrano last night in this ongoing free monthly workshop presented by the Center for Philosophic Inquiry and Practice. And we had some new faces among the participants who we hope will continue to enjoy the group. Seeing the regular participants is always a joy. Having tinkered with the format I think we found a good method where we use two documents when considering any philosophers work. One short, arou...nd two pages, that has selections and pivotal paragraphs from the work in question that are so well written they can stand on their own as fragments. And also the entire work from which they came. And we spend the better part of an hour considering and focusing our inquiry on the fragments, staying loyal to the text, and then open the the floor for discussion of the work as a whole within the greater context of the fields of philosophy, science, humanities, theology, the letters and the arts that the participants bring with them. Doing this last night allowed the many different orientations the participants bring with them, political philosophy, critical theory, feminist philosophy, theological philosophy, philosophy of science to name a few from entering into fruitless territorial debates and conflicts but allow for mutual enriching and interdisciplinary dialog without having to give up ones purview while listening to another. Last nights discussion was one of the most pluralistic I think we have had to date and did not require any one or a group of personalities asserting themselves in order keep the group contained. The participants have always been intellectually stimulating. But I credit the level of pluralism to the format adapted from the work of philosopher Ran Lahav and not any one or group of individuals. And I think we should pursue it. We have achieved something in that within two hours we are able to practice in common writing, reading, listening and speaking through creative, critical and reflexive shared inquiry. Which I think are the principle defining 'symptoms" all philosophers regardless of their orientations have in common. Last night brought me satisfaction, even a measure of peace without marginalizing any complexity or contradiction brought to the table. And that is an accomplishment. https://www.meetup.com/Silver-Lake-Los-Angeles-Philosoph//
