Just a decade ago, surgical options were limited for people like 77-year-old drummer Denny Seiwell who was diagnosed life-threatening aortic aneurysm. In 2019, however, thanks to minimally invasive techniques and Dr. Ali Azizzadeh at Cedars-Sinai, Denny was on his way back to doing what he loves! "Almost everything we do in vascular surgery has been completely replaced by new technology since I started my career," Dr. Azizzadeh says. "The pace of progress is incredible."

Data on racial and ethnic disparities in pregnancy related deaths are at an alarming point. We are working to improve cultural competence by focusing on the care women of color receive right from the beginning of pregnancy. "At Cedars-Sinai, the whole issue of equity has been a focus point from the top down, which has been a really positive way to empower change across the institution. These are uncomfortable conversations to have, but they need to be had," says Dr. Kimberly Gregory.

For 19 years, Beverly Hills Fire Department has done a Christmas Day toy drive and visit to our pediatrics patients and families. Although this year's unit visit had to be canceled, BHFD still collaborated with some amazing community partners to drop off toys and bring smiles to these patients.
