Watch NBC's Jacob Soboroff report on the obstacles faced by Seneca Family of Agencies, as they work tirelessly to provide mental health care to migrant families separated by the Trump administration. This story spotlights the work Seneca Family of Agencies has been doing to locate families that were separated under the Zero Tolerance Policy and connect them to free mental health services. The story highlights a father and son who bravely shared their experience of separation... and their journey toward healing. We hope these stories help to spread the word about services, draw attention to the resilience of these families, and empower others to share their experiences so that these policies change. "President Trump on Sunday signed the government funding and coronavirus relief package, the White House said, averting a government shutdown and delivering economic aid as the pandemic worsens. Trump signed off on the $2.3 trillion package from his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Fla., days after he expressed displeasure with the spending outlined in the omnibus and complained that the coronavirus relief measure should include direct payments of $2,000 per person, up from $...600." "Gov. Gavin Newsom will take swift action Tuesday to fill the newly vacant post of California secretary of state by selecting Democratic Assemblywoman Shirley Weber to serve as the state’s chief elections officer, the result of his decision to appoint incumbent Secretary of State Alex Padilla to the U.S. Senate. Weber, a 72-year-old retired professor and San Diego legislator, has earned a reputation for taking on tough issues at the state Capitol. She would be only the fourth... woman to ever hold the position and the first Black woman to do so in state history." #CBHA is honored to congratulate Assemblymember Shirley Weber on her appointment as the California Secretary of State! #SecretaryOfState #california #history #behavioralhealth #mentalhealth #advocacy #wellness #congratulations

#ElectionDay is in one week! Do you still need to cast your vote? Are you unsure of where to start your research? CBHA's Race and Social Equity Taskforce (RSET) is here to help! We've created a Proposition Preview to help prepare our communities to make their voices heard. Included in the Proposition Preview is a section that explains the ability of non-profits to engage in advocacy and lobbying. This document also highlights several propositions that will be on the November ...2020 Ballot. We have chosen to highlight these specific propositions as we believe they are relevant to behavioral healthcare and have an impact on race and social equity. The number of Californians with mental health distress sharply increased from 2014 to 2018. The number of California adults who reported that they had experienced serious psychological distress in any given year increased by 42%. The UCLA study finds the trend was especially pronounced among 18- to 24-year-olds. The finding is based on research in the California Health Interview Survey, which each year gathers data from more than 20,000 respondents. Based on the surveys, UCLA... researchers project that nearly 2.2 million Californians experienced serious psychological distress in 2014, and that the figure steadily increased through 2018, when, according to their projections, 3.2 million experienced such issues.
