Today’s SQ57’s Aerospace Education topic briefly discussed the CAP Mission Air Crew roles and responsibilities. The below photograph is a sample of how difficult it is to see a downed aircraft. Can you see it? No? Then attend our next MS Teams meeting on March 3 to find out.
SQ 57 is a starting the year as a trailblazer!! We applaud and thank Maj. David Bowles, his generous donation is jump starting the Cadet Flight Training Class. SQ 57 also developed a tool to make planning WALDO missions easier and more efficient. 1st Lt. Gary Paquette and 1st Lt, Tim Sjobring demonstrated the innovative tool on a simulated Waldo Mission on last night’s Online meeting.
Wishing everyone a safe and wonderful holiday season.
SQ 57’s last meeting topics for November were Weather (by R.Craighead) and Taxes (by S. Millard) ........on both we need practical tips for how to cope when things go wrong and when it’s time to make a change. Thanking CAP members for their volunteer service and wishing everyone a pleasant Thanksgiving Celebration.
Kudos to SQ 57’s Awardees that were recognized on the recent California Wing Conference. 1st Lt Tim Sjobring for Ground Team member of the year. Maj Mark Nicholson, Gill Robb Wilson Award, Level 5... Maj David Bowles, 50 Year Member
We are in Phase 1 hence we are still unable to gather for our weekly meeting. Despite this hurdle, we are happy to see new faces that attended our meeting last night. Welcome!!!! Highlights of the meeting: 1) SQ57 accomplishments for the year and 2) AE officer R. Craighead made a pitch on the importance of educating Cadets, Senior members and the public about aviation, cyberspace and STEM.
Congratulations to David Bowles for 50 years of CAP service and to all SQ 57 awardees!
Bravo Tim Sjobring for participating in this mission.
SQ57 ground team members Sjobring, Furra and Nicholson participated in the search. Let us increase the ground team qualified personnel in our SQ by participating in ground Team exercises whenever we have them.

Congratulations to Major Jennifer Davenport and Major Mark Nicholson. They recently graduated from the Civil Air Patrol’s Final National Staff College (NSC). ... The NSC is a 13 weeks program to enhance the leadership abilities of CAP members who are or will be assuming leadership positions at the Wing, Regional and National level. The 112 student graduates represented 37 CAP Wings, three Region Headquarters, a National Headquarters Squadron as well two from United Kingdom and South Korea.
The Civil Air Patrol and the United States Air Force routinely fly "Fertile Keynote" training missions to practice intercepting aircraft in various scenarios. T...he training allows fighter pilots, controllers and NORAD personnel to rapidly intercept aircraft that show signs of distress or fail to comply with air traffic control instructions. https://go.usa.gov/xVY2w
