Check out and share this great video by Nu-Blu, shot right here in the high desert of CA! Even though they are based in North Carolina, they show how much they ...love us by touring our state two or three times a year - so often that a lot of folks consider them our adopted California band! From John Hettinger: On October 24 between 1:00 and 5:00 PM, we would like to invite all the musicians who knew and miss Shayne Sutton, for a time to remember him. This will be at Mt Olive Lutheran Church, 320 Montrose in Folsom. COVID-19 is still with us so wear your mask and practice social distancing as much as practical. The gathering will be outside on the lawn so bring your own chair.... No food or beverages will be served so bring your own. There will be music so bring your instruments. Questions? Call Dennis or Jo Wazac 530-601-0306 or 530-601-8251) Hope to see you there!

Dear bluegrass fans and old-time fans: "Turn Your Radio On (Line)" is a series of live performances by top bluegrass and old-time players that will be broadcast over the internet this June. Proceeds will help bluegrass artists and the CBA survive and thrive through the Covid crisis. There's a three-hour live festival with top bluegrass & old-time performers on Saturday, June 20; four weekly live broadcasts leading up to the June 20 event; and an online silent auction startin...g May 16 and ending June 20. This is a big undertaking -- almost as big as the Father's Day Festival would have been! You know how we put out a call for volunteers ahead of Father's Day every year? Well this year, we're asking for your help to make this happen instead. Auction items: Instead of bringing ice around to campsites, you could help find bluegrass-related things, like instruments, books, gear, and so on, to go in the silent auction! Services, dinner with a celebrity, signed posters, one-of-a-kind safety masks -- you name it, "Turn Your Radio On (Line)" can use it. To help out on this, get in touch with Deb Livermore at [email protected]. Community support: Instead of checking in attendees at the gate, how about helping people get connected to the livestream? We need volunteers who are reasonably familiar with internet stuff to answer questions from people who aren't used to that kind of thing, so that nobody is left out. Some training will be provided. To join this team, get in touch with Ted Kuster at [email protected]. Production help: Instead of working the backstage, you could help put on the show! Do you have radio or TV or recording studio skills or equipment you could lend for the live production? To help this team, get in touch with Pete Lude at [email protected]. The CBA is breaking new ground with this project and we're excited to have you be a part of it! If you'd like to participate but you're not sure how, or if you have any questions about the project, please ask Ted Kuster by email ([email protected]) or text (415-948-3663).

The 2020 California Bluegrass Association Father’s Day Festival is Postponed to 2021 Dear CBA Members, Festival Goers, Bluegrass Fans, Musicians, and Pickers, It is with deep sadness that the CBA Board of Directors must announce the postponement of the 45th Father’s Day Festival, which was to be held June 18-21, 2020 at the Nevada County Fairgrounds, Grass Valley, California. The CBA Music Camp and Youth Academy held during the festival week are also postponed for this year.... Our primary consideration in making this decision is the safety and health of all our festival participants, musicians, vendors, and volunteers. Given the significant uncertainty about the progress of the COVID-19 pandemic, it appears increasingly likely that the crisis will continue through June and beyond. In light of this, we believe the safest option is to cancel this year’s festival and begin working towards other initiatives to support our community during these tough times. We will, of course, also be planning the best festival ever for 2021 and beyond. We also made this choice in order to preserve the health and long-term future of the California Bluegrass Association. If we wanted to be sure that we would have a festival to return to next summer, we had to choose to cancel this year’s festival before circumstances forced our hand. If you are a Festival, Music Camp, or Youth Academy attendee and have already purchased tickets, or have purchased Full Hookup or Electric-only campsites, you can request a refund within 90 days at www.fathersdayfestival.com. For any questions or concerns about this refund policy, please contact us at [email protected], or by mail at PO Box 255561, Sacramento, CA 95865. If you would instead prefer to donate your ticket purchase as a sustaining contribution to the CBA, we would be immensely grateful for your support during this challenging time -- just click the box on the web site link above. Further information and updates will be posted in the Bluegrass Breakdown, our web pages, and CBA Facebook and Instagram feeds. We will also send updates by email to CBA members and festival participants. We have several other scheduled events in the coming months including the Golden Old-Time Campout in August and our Fall Campout scheduled for the week of October 12-18, 2020. The CBA Board will track the progression of the pandemic, will monitor local, state, and national directives and restrictions, and will post updates as necessary closer to their scheduled dates. Be safe, be careful, and be well. Sincerely Yours, Geoff Sargent Chair, California Bluegrass Association Board of Directors

3/29/2020 This would normally be the email that summarizes Bluegrass & Old-time events in our area and has the monthly newsletter attached to it. However, given the COVID-19 lockdown and the unlikelihood that the governor will remove it before May, there is no newsletter for April 2020. The news items I can pass on to you follow .... The Spring Campout in Lodi has been cancelled. As of this writing, the Father’s Day Festival, Music Camp, and Youth Academy are all still scheduled to occur the week of June 14-June 21, 2020. This however is a very dynamic situation. The Sac Newsletter will update you on any changes as we find out about them. You can also keep up to date by checking the CBA website https://www.cbaweb.org All the events in Early April that are in the March newsletter are canceled - including the concert at the Folsom Opry house on April 4th. All of the Jams listed on the 2nd page of March newsletter should be canceled in April but I can’t speak for them. I wouldn’t want to go to a jam in April if it were on. But if you want to go to an April jam, check with the jam leader first . Deb Livermore is hoping to have a Bluegrass event on Saturday, May 2, 2020 at the Idol Beer Works in Lodi. It will be an afternoon of Bluegrass Bands - North Country Blue, Lost Valley, and Boston Ravine. There will be a ticket price of $10. The time 2pm - 6pm. Of course at this point it is questionable....but we are still hopeful! There are several other scheduled major events in the coming months including the Golden Old-Time Campout in August and our Fall Campout scheduled for the week of October 12-18, 2020. The CBA Board is tracking the progression of the pandemic and monitoring local, state, and national directives and restrictions. The CBA Board will post updates on those events closer to when they are scheduled. I will try to keep you up to date as significant events occur. Be Careful & Stay Safe Ron Sac Area VP
