2.5 Hours in Burlingame 1. Swung by Burlingame Chiropractic Clinic for an adjustment. 2. Quick stop in HL Peninsula Pearl’s (1590 Old Bayshore Hwy) parking lot to watch the impressive number of outdoor dining tents being set up - at least 20!... 3. Fill up my tank at the Shell station on Old Bayshore Hwy. Does where I get my gas really matter? You bet your bottom dollar it does! Fuel and service station taxes comprise 5% of the City’s sales and use taxes. I prefer these taxes go toward Burlingame’s general fund revenues than elsewhere. Every choice counts! 4. Pop into Nuts for Candy to pick up a super cool lava lamp and stocking stuffers for my 9-year-old, including a fun bookmark designed and produced by two local 13-year-olds and sold by owners John and Nora Kevranian. 5. Discovered some beautifully packaged Turkish Delights to distribute to my neighbors while shopping at Istanbul Market for my staples. 6. Stop at Mollie Stone’s for a festive holiday centerpiece, sandwiches for the distance learning pod at home, and decadent holiday treats. Disclaimer: I am a part-time City employee and today is my day off. None of this shopping occurred while on the job. (Just in case you were wondering.) SATURDAY PARKING IS FREE at all on-street metered spaces, plus City-owned parking lots, in the downtown Burlingame Avenue area and Broadway commercial district beginning tomorrow and continuing through January 2. Where are you shopping this weekend? Send me your pics and the local businesses you will be supporting by sending an email to [email protected].

Today is a great day for takeout! Since the new stay at home order went into effect on Thursday, restaurants may only offer takeout and delivery for at least the next three weeks! Burlingame Youth Advisory Committee member Sylvie is committed to supporting Burlingame restaurants. She said, instead of frequently buying and supporting restaurant chains, I will strive to support our local Burlingame businesses including Mediterranean Kebab for its amazing service and food. Th...is way my money will go to a business that appreciates it and I will get a delicious, healthy and handmade dish in return for it. The workers there are incredible, amazing people that deserve all the help they can get, especially during these hard times! Be like Sylvie, order healthy local takeout! Once again, the City would like to apologize for the noise that disturbed you and your families last night. City staff has spent the day working with the Golf Center operator and concert promoter HUSHconcerts to ensure that nothing like this happens again. Here is what we’ve learned, and a game plan going forward: Explanation: According to the HUSHconcerts CEO, the company tested their sound system in advance in order to ensure the sound hit the audience and nowhere else. D...ue to a variety of factors (the slope, ground composition, and air last night), that sound bounced off the ground and went far further than intended. Their sound team was monitoring the hotels areas (which were fine) as they did not foresee that the sound would bounce to the residential areas to the west. This is not an excuse, only an explanation. Resolution: HUSHconcerts will cut their PA system completely for the remainder of this run. That means the main speakers and subwoofers (which are aimed at the cars) will not be used at all. All attendees will enjoy the show completely on FM stereo in their cars for the remainder of the run, including tonight’s show, which is slated to stop at 10:30. Moving forward: There will be some small monitor speakers on the stage itself for the musicians to hear one another. This is less than what the Parks and Recreation Department used for our concert event on October 2. HUSHconcerts will be tuning that system this afternoon in the company of Parks and Recreation Department representatives to ensure that even this small amount of sound does not become an issue. Should this not work, then City staff will work with the Golf Center operator to shut down the remaining shows. The CEO of HUSHconcerts is Robbie Kowal. He can be reached at [email protected] if you have any further questions or concerns. Feel free to copy [email protected] on your email so that the City Council and City staff are also aware of your concerns. Again, please accept our deepest apologies.

We are truly sorry for the inexcusable noise coming from the Golf Center last night. While the event was not City-sponsored, it received permit approvals from City staff for traffic, emergency services, and landfill regulations. City staff has been in contact with the event sponsor to rectify the situation and address volume and curfew complaints. We will also be onsite today to work through it with them. We will keep you informed about what to expect going forward. We cannot apologize enough for the disturbance last night. Rest assured we take responsibility and are working hard to address the impact on our neighborhoods.

The playgrounds are opening soon. For your family’s safety, all playground visitors must follow the mandatory safety rules from the California Department of P...ublic Health (posted at each playground location). Rules include: 1. Age 2 and over must wear face coverings. 2. Don’t crowd. Maintain 6 feet distance from others. Playground maximum occupancy is posted at each location. 3. You are responsible for washing or sanitizing hands before and after use. 4. Children must be actively supervised at all times. 5. No eating or drinking in the playground area. 6. Limit visits to 30 minutes when others are waiting. If you are unable to comply with the safety and park rules, we ask that you refrain from using the playground areas at this time. The City does not have the personnel available to continually monitor the playgrounds and, short of physically detaining every rule violator, there is no way to ensure that the safety guidelines are uniformly observed. It is important to note that even when all State safety guidelines are followed, visitors should be aware that there are risks involved with using this high-touch, shared equipment. While the City has dedicated extra resources to cleaning playground equipment, no amount of periodic cleaning can guarantee that the equipment will be free of viruses or other infectious materials since they can be left behind after a single use. Just like all other activities we participate in during COVID-19, people will have to make their own decisions about what risks they feel comfortable taking. We all need to take personal responsibility for following the rules, being a good neighbor, and taking steps to protect ourselves and our families. Remember, your actions affect the health and well-being of our community. Learn more on the California Department of Public Health website at https://www.cdph.ca.gov/

We heard that some of you super speedy voters tried to drop off your ballot this a.m. in one of our drop boxes. By law, the County Elections Office couldn't unlock the ballot boxes until today. They are making their way around the county unlocking all ballot boxes right now.
