A vigil was held last night for Sheria Musyoka who was mowed over by a career criminal on probation who was driving a stolen car and under the influence. "I don't think people with 5, 6, 7 arrests should be allowed to be out on the streets doing this," said San Francisco resident Robin Krop.

We need to start having the discussion in SF about the effectiveness of supervised release; about ensuring criminals with a history of addiction are getting treatment. Otherwise our community will keep getting victimized.

Sheria Musyoka was out for a jog when he was killed by a man on post-release community supervision who is accused of driving under the influence in a stolen car. A Go Fund Me page has been started to support Sheria’s wife, Hannah and 3-year son, Theo. Hannah also has stated she wants to establish a foundation in honor of her husband to bring about political reform in San Francisco and beyond. She is committed to doing her part to ensure no other family ever has to experience such preventable trauma.

A nightmare incident for any parent. Fast work by SFPD officers and the public brought this horrible incident to a peaceful close. Now we must find those responsible and hold them responsible for the terror they caused.

We cannot brush aside the concerns of families and the community by dismissing these incidents as accidents. Multiple arrests. Under the influence. Stolen car. Destroyed families. These are not wild coincidences.

Murdered in the line of duty 37 years ago, the family of LAPD officer Paul Verna still hopes for justice. Kenneth Gay has been given the death penalty twice by juries, and now may walk free. Now its up to the DA to decide whether to pursue charges once again.

After more than 30 years of service, and just 4 months into his retirement, our brother Sgt. Darren Choy suffered a major stroke. Rather than enjoying his retirement and spending time with his family, he’s spending it in a rehabilitation center. His family is in need of help to prepare for Darren’s comfort and care when he returns home. If you’re able to support his recovery efforts, his family will be forever grateful.
