Gold 3 has had an adventurous start to their service year. They began working with YMCA Camp Piomingo in Kentucky before being deployed to assist the Red Cross in response to the devastating Oregon wildfires. The team has helped process numerous casework applications for sheltering clients, which has helped impacted community members find safe and sustainable housing. Red 4 is supporting local community-based organizations with disaster preparedness and conducting phone calls to provide one-on-one communication with Californians at risk from COVID-19 and natural disasters. Red 4 has recently been busy with Listos California assisting with the Mobile Laundry Unit and helping inventory donations. The team also served Camp Krem by removing burnt trees and setting up erosion barriers. This is an essential step in the recovery of Camp Krem, which was devastated by this year's wildfire season. #AmeriCorps #AmeriCorpsWorks #GetThingsDone

Next Tuesday, AmeriCorps NCCC Pacific Region will induct 228 young adults from across the nation to begin their service as Traditional Corps members. Our Red 2 team had the distinct honor of meeting Congresswoman Doris O. Matsui today. Our Corps members were excited for the opportunity to meet a sitting member of Congress, and her support for the AmeriCorps NCCC program is greatly appreciated. Red 6 is serving in with the Billings Food Bank in Billings, Montana. They are assisting with donations management and food distribution. The team is getting strong! They frequently move large pallets weighing hundreds of pounds across the warehouse grounds, and everyday it gets a bit easier for them. They've transported a total of 17,856 lbs. of items, including food, hygiene products, and essential household supplies. These items are then bagged and distributed to people in need around the Billings community. Keep getting things done, Red 6! #AmeriCorps #GetThingsDone #BeTheGreaterGood

Gold 4 is currently on active disaster deployment with United Way Fresno and Madera Counties. They are working on Creek Fire response efforts that include supplying meals to evacuees, organizing donations, and distributing disaster readiness information along with face masks and hand sanitizer. They’ve also traveled to local farms in the region and distributed free N95 face masks to farm workers due to the poor air quality caused by wildfire smoke.
