These acts of evil are more than many of us can bear, I know. At some point, it becomes hard to find the words sufficient enough to address the continued barrage of hate that we must all live through and continue to witness. A white man was allowed to enter into an establishment, and unleash his evil, leaving in his wake terror and the loss of eight API sisters, mothers, daughters, aunts, and community members.... Was this about a sick and evil man’s actions? Yes Was this about a former president of the United States using his power and a bully pulpit to give voice and space to overtly racist calls to action to prey on our Black, API, Latino, immigrant, and Muslim brothers and sisters? Yes Was this about the pass that terrorists got when they invaded the Capitol and were allowed to threaten our democracy unchecked with little consequence while Black Lives Matters protesters were demonized? Yes It’s about all of it. And, it’s about eight of our women’s lives being taken, and our API community being terrorized, and our elders feeling unsafe in our community, and our children fearful to go about their daily lives. We send our support and condolences to the families impacted and left behind, and we as Oakland Promise, along with our Oakland community, hold our fellow API community members during this incredibly difficult time. - Mia Bonta, Oakland Promise CEO.

This Pandemic Parenting Toolkit is a virtual space created by Tanya Burrell to support African American families with Distance Learning and Pandemic Parenting.
