For all cases pending in Ventura County Superior Court "Until further notice, due to the COVID-19 public health concerns and recommendations for social distancing, and consistent with authority from the Chief Justice of the California Supreme Court, all regularly calendared probate motion, petitions and trials in Courtroom J6 will be continued to future dates. You can expect these continuances will exist indefinitely until the public health authorities determine it is safe ...to resume normal operations. The only exception to this will be ex parte matters that are true emergencies. These ex parte emergency matters will be held only on Friday mornings at 9:00 a.m, beginning on March 20, 2020, and will be held each Friday thereafter until further notice. You do not need to file your ex parte documents prior to the hearing but you do need to give notice as required by law. Bring your ex parte paperwork directly to Courtroom J6 and give it to the bailiff or clerk as they direct. The judge will then review your request, and if it is opposed or will be denied will call the case on the record. Unopposed requests that are true emergencies will be granted based solely on the pleadings unless the judge requires additional information from the requesting party. You will then be directed how to proceed by courtroom staff. Ex parte petitions concerning discovery matters are never emergencies. Temporary Letters that are expiring will automatically be renewed when continued without a court appearance. If your Letters expire on a particular Friday, please bring new proposed Letters to Courtroom J6 that morning and new Letters will be issued at that time. The Court appreciates your cooperation by minimizing the number of people that enter the courthouse to minimize exposure and spread of this virus. If possible, only one person per case should enter the courthouse. Once we get through the emergent phase of dealing with this public health pandemic, we will notify you when regular calendars will resume and how we will deal with the backlog, not just in probate, but with our criminal cases as well."
PRESS RELEASE For immediate publication March 18, 2020... Grey Law of Ventura County is a non-profit organization that provides free legal consultations for seniors in our county. These consultations are provided by volunteer attorneys. These consultations usually take place at eleven different senior centers around Ventura County. However, due to the COVID-19 restrictions, all the senior centers have been closed, and senior citizens have been encouraged to stay home. As of today, March 18, 2020, the Ventura County Superior Courts are closed, and we do not know when they will reopen for business as usual. We care about your safety, and those of our volunteers and staff. We recognize our seniors still have pressing legal needs, and we have decided to continue to provide our legal consultations via telephone. Our physical office will not be open for in-person consultations or walk-in services of any kind. To schedule a telephone consultation, please call Grey Law of Ventura County at (805) 658-2266. Your information will be taken, and a consultation appointment will be set. If you have documents that you need our volunteer attorneys to review, they must be submitted via fax [(805) 728-7168] or email. Please let our staff member know if documents are being sent prior to your appointment, and indicate GREY LAW in the subject line on the fax coversheet.

Social Security Phone Scam Alert Scammers are saying your Social Security number (SSN) has been suspended because of suspicious activity, or because it’s been i...nvolved in a crime. Sometimes, the scammer wants you to confirm your SSN to reactivate it. Sometimes, they will say your bank account is about to be seized but they will tell you what to do to keep it safe. Often, it involves putting your money on gift cards and giving them the codes which, of course, means that your money is gone. Your caller ID often shows the real SSA phone number (1-800-772-1213) when these scammers call but they’re faking that number. It’s not the real SSA calling. Here's what to know: Your Social Security number is not about to be suspended. You don’t have to verify your number to anyone who calls you. And your bank accounts are not about to be seized. SSA will never call to threaten your benefits or tell you to wire money, send cash, or put money on gift cards. Anyone who tells you to do those things is a scammer. Every time. The real SSA number is 1-800-772-1213, but scammers are putting that number in the caller ID. If you’re worried about what the caller says, hang up and call 1-800-772-1213 to speak to the real SSA. Even if the wait time is long, confirm with the real SSA before responding to one of these calls. Never give any part of your Social Security number to anyone who contacts you. Or your bank account or credit card number. If you get one of these calls, tell the FTC at ftc.gov/complaint.
