The target market for prepaid wireless plans is typically cost-conscious customers. So today’s announcement from Cricket that it will offer 5G might be a bit of a nothing-burger, considering that it will require an expensive phone and plan. Cricket Wireless, the prepaid brand of AT&T, is now offering 5G wherever it’s available across AT&T’s nationwide network. Cricket subscribers can access it via the Samsung Galaxy S20+ 5G smartphone. They’ll need to subscribe to one of Cric...ket’s unlimited plans, starting at $60 per month, or on the Simply Data plans. Cricket also unveiled a new 100 GB Simply Data rate plan for $90 per month. Cricket's first 5G capable smartphone costs $1,199.99, which is steep for the typical subscriber of a prepaid phone plan. Wave7 Research’s principal Jeff Moore said the $1,199.99 price is simply more than prepaid customers are willing to pay.

It’s been about four months to the day that the FCC announced it had approved Ligado Networks’ application to deploy a low-power nationwide network in the L-Band to support 5G and IoT services. But the company is still being dogged by Department of Defense (DoD) and other opponents who insist Ligado’s planned use of the spectrum threatens military GPS. Ligado representatives recently met with the legal advisors to FCC commissioners to discuss how GPS manufacturers and representatives of the aviation community continue to both misrepresent the record in this proceeding and badly misconstrue the Commission’s April 22, 2020 Order and Authorization. #technology #wireless #5g #BLVCKDOT

Dish is eyeing 5G monetization with dynamic pricing. Today the company announced that Matrixx Software will supply its converged charging system for Dish’s forthcoming 5G network. When it comes to packaging and monetizing new wireless services Dish said converged billing will play a critical role. The company called out dynamic pricing for network slices. Network slicing is a technology sometimes seen as a key for monetizing 5G services because portions or slices of the network could be partitioned by operators with resources allocated for particular usage or application requirements.

Today, the U.S. Department of Commerce further put the screws to Huawei, saying no company that is subject to Commerce export-control jurisdiction may deal with Huawei or any other company on Commerce’s Entity List. And Commerce added another 38 Huawei affiliates across 21 countries to its Entity List. Commerce said the further restrictions were necessary to prevent Huawei’s attempts to circumvent U.S. export controls. It said the 38 affiliates were acting on Huawei’s behalf contrary to the national security or foreign policy interests of the United States. The 38 companies include such names as Huawei Cloud Argentina; Huawei Cloud Brazil; Huawei Cloud France; Huawei Cloud Berlin; Huawei Cloud Mexico, etc. #BLACKDOT #BLVCKDOT #connect #technology #capital #leasepurchase #wireless
