I remember feeling amazing that I got to walk out the gates of Auschwitz, when many of my ancestors could not. I remember the faces of my peers as well as the hundreds of strangers who surrounded me, who started to smile as they walked through the notorious gates and to the ceremony.butI also remember looking behind me, at my classmates and hundre...ds of people surrounding them, and they didn’t have smiles. They were still in the camp. It kind of brought a picture to my mind that the people behind me were people who still were not free. Then, I remember making a sign with the name of someone who died in the Holocaust and putting it in the grass outside the gates of Birkenau. Shabbat Shalom!

Thanks to Gala Chair Susan Baum, our amazing Working Committee, and generous supporters across the community close to 650 individuals, representing 225 households, enjoyed a delicious catered Shabbat dinner, delivered to their homes and helped BJE exceed its Gala fundraising goals.
