Dear friends: in our haste in getting out some helpful information last week, we made this post based on information from a text shared from another dental colleague to one of our doctors. We made some edits and posted that very same day. However, we didn't double check the source material and it turns out that there are lots of misinformation, as reported by many readers (in particular we'd like to thank Stacey Mitchell for repeatedly reminding us that our post contains misi...nformation and that a clarification is owed). Things such as drinking plenty water, keeping mouth moist and gargling with salt water in an effort to flush down the virus...they seem to be common sense stuff, but obviously no studies have been done to confirm conclusively such methods are helpful with the coronavirus. At the time we wanted to share this information to as many people as we can so we boosted this post to get more people benefit from this information. We didn't think the advice were harmful, and it was not presented as "do this and don't go see a doctor", in fact, at the bottom of the post we put "seek immediate attention" if you don't feel well. Consider this a disclaimer. We have edited this post by deleting those previous content and hereby offer our sincere apology.

Dear ICONIC Dentistry family, Like so many of you, we have spent the last several days and weeks learning about coronavirus (COVID-19) and how it is impacting our world, country, and local communities. Our office is dedicated to understanding how it affects our patients, employees, and doctors, and then making the necessary adjustments to our office routine. We take pride in our infection control, which strictly follows the recommendations from the Center for Disease Control ...(CDC) and American Dental Association (ADA). Our employees and doctors utilize proper hand hygiene and are encouraged to stay home if they feel sick. Since early February we have NOT scheduled anyone who has traveled abroad recently. In compliance with an urgent request from the California Dental Association, as of 3/17/2020 and for the next 14 days we will suspend all non-urgent or non-emergency dental care. Our team will still be available as needed for emergency care and services; and we still answer phone calls 714-835-4441. To learn more about what we do, come and see our new website: icondds.com For everybody who were rescheduled, please accept our apology for your inconvenience. During this difficult time, here at ICONIC we have one simple objective that guides us: keeping you, our patients, and our employees safe. We will continue to closely monitor the situation, share what we find that's helpful, and do all we can to protect our patient family. Stay safe, stay hopeful, stay strong!

Common household products that you already have that can deal a deathblow to the COVID-19. (Disclaimer: We recognize that one of last week's posts had some misinformation and in our haste to spread some helpful information we neglected to fact check before we boosted the post. In our future posts regarding health information we will do our best to fact check and will also provide relevant links. What we post does not constitute medical advice. Please follow the links on your ...own and spend the time to properly digest the information.) -------------------------------------------------------- As it stands now, many stores are sold out on alcohol-based hand sanitizers and common disinfectants. Here are some of the things that you may already have around the house that can help to minimize the risk of transmitting COVID-19 or any other pathogen or virus. It turns out that coronaviruses are some of the easiest types of viruses to kill with the appropriate product. Coronaviruses belong to a family of envelope viruses. Their viral envelope is what enables them to latch on and invade host cells; without it, they cannot infect. Lucky for us, the envelope is very susceptible to common household cleaning products such as hydrogen peroxide--a Russian study from 1977 clearly showed that coronavirus and influenza viruses were the most sensitive to 3% hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)--abstract here: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/203115. A concise list of stuff that can be used to wipe surfaces or put into spray bottles; from this article: https://www.consumerreports.org//common-household-product/ (1) Soap and Water (2) Bleach (4 teaspoons in 1 quart of water) (3) Isopropyl Alcohol (at least 70%) (4) Hydrogen Peroxide (3%)

This patient has very high frenulum attachment at a premolar tooth. Over the years the tension acting on the gum has led to a significant recession defect exposing the root surface. This can be corrected simply with a soft tissue laser procedure called frenulectomy (no bleeding when done with a laser versus a scalpel) in 5 minutes.

Hi, everyone, for those who are already in the space of looking for natural, every-day whole foods and vegetables to achieve your optimal health, the fact that coconut have many benefits may not surprise you. But here are some facts and links to videos and references that may be of interest. This is an extremely versatile "super food"! Coconut oil is almost 50% lauric acid, a medium-chain fatty acid (MCT); and lauric acid is a powerful antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral.... as well as anti-inflammatory when converted in the body into monolaurin. MCT is also a ketone body, which is an alternate fuel to the body to glucose when some people are eating a more ketogenic diet in an effort to get better from chronic metabolic diseases. A couple of short videos: Coconut Oil Fights Bacteria Naturally (from 2009) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUEhBSzrTns&feature=youtu.be The Best Remedy for Viruses (Monolaurin) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIzaHVz5218&feature=youtu.be Longer videos: Coconut Oil: How to Fight Colds & Flu- Thomas DeLauer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DECpLgmYEhM 12 Incredible Health Benefits of Coconut Oil! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_n-Fs3ZzQgI&t=19s What's more, a recent study from 2018 showed that monolaurin (what's converted from the main component of coconut oil) has power inhibitory effect on a nasty Gram negative bacteria A. actinomycemcomitans, a bad player in the development of aggressive periodontal disease. Check out this short video about other everyday herbs with known antiviral properties. For those who are not going to watch: 1) lemon balm 2) astragalus (aka Huang Qi) [not in the video, but licorice is related to astragalus, and has similar properties] 3) garlic... 4) ginger + raw honey https://youtu.be/YmBIlj4L_7c
