@bellanxietytreatment for mental health tips and awareness. What is Self-harm? Self-harm and self-injury are any forms of hurting oneself on purpose. Usually, when people self-harm, they do not do so as a suicide attempt. But as a way to release painful emotions.... Like all urges, the urge to cut will pass if you wait it out. Distracting yourself with something else helps time go by and gets your mind off the urge to cut. Here are some of the most common types of self-injury: Cutting Scratching Burning Carving words or symbols into the skin Hitting or punching oneself (including banging one’s head or other body parts against another surface) Piercing the skin with sharp objects such as hairpins Pulling out hair Picking at existing wounds Crisis Text Line can help you deal with self-harm. Text a Crisis Counselor at 741741. You should seek out psychotherapy to work on the underlying issues causing you to harm yourself. . . . . . #selfhelp #selfhealing #depressionawareness #personalitydisorder #eupd #bpd #depressionhelp #endthestigma #relationships #love #ptsd #rocd #depression #anxietyawareness #mensmentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #mindfulness #therapistsofinstagram #mentalhealthsupport #mentalhealth #anxiety #wellbeing #mentalhealthawareness #breakups #belltreatment #anxietytreatment #healing #blackmentalhealth #facts #thoughts

@bellanxietytreatment for mental health tips and awareness. I want to talk about schizophrenia today since it is often misunderstood and there are many people living with it, and not getting the right treatment. Schizophrenia is classified as a psychotic disorder. People with schizophrenia have symptoms of psychosis, an abnormal state of consciousness in which the higher functions of the mind are disrupted. Although schizophrenia can occur at any age, the average age of o...nset tends to be in the late teens to the early 20s for men, and the late 20s to early 30s for women. It is uncommon for schizophrenia to be diagnosed in a person younger than 12 or older than 40. Oftentimes there is a gradual change in the person before obvious symptoms start. This is sometimes called the prodrome phase. People with the condition usually aren't aware that they have it until a doctor or counselor tells them. They won't even realize that something is seriously wrong. If they do happen to notice symptoms, like not being able to think straight, they might think they're juststressed or tired. There are positive symptoms and negative symptoms. Positive symptoms are highly exaggerated ideas, perceptions, or actions and the person can’t tell what’s real from what isn’t. The word "positive" means the presence (rather than absence) of symptoms: Delusions, Hallucinations, Disorganized speech, Disorganized behavior. Negative symptoms refer to an absence or lack of normal mental function involving thinking, behavior, and perception: Flattened affect, Anhedonia, Reduced speech, Lack of initiative. Antipsychotic medications reduce the psychotic symptoms of schizophrenia and other mental illnesses, usually allowing a person to function more effectively and appropriately. Therapy is an important part of treatment for schizophrenia. If you suspect someone in your life suffers from schizophrenia, please help them. Often times they don't realize it themselves.

@bellanxietytreatment for mental health tips and awareness. @crazyheadcomics I remember watching a documentary in grad school about homelessness in Los Angeles where I live. This guy went and interviewed many people to listen to their stories. Many of them had untreated mental illnesses such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, personality disorders, PTSD etc., and this often times led to unhealthy coping and drug use. ... It broke my heart to realize that they didn't receive proper treatment. Maybe if society didn't stigmatize certain mental illnesses even more, they'd feel OK seeking help. We live in a society that often punishes people who have mental illness and addiction more than rehabilitation and treatment. We can start by not demonizing these mental illnesses so people can feel comfortable seeking treatment. Hollywood can also help by portraying it correctly in movies. It starts with us all. Seeking treatment isn't a sign of weakness or failure in any way, it’s an illness. And like any illness or injury, with the right treatment things can get better and you can live a healthy and meaningful life. . . . . . . #borderlinepersonalitydisorder #ocd #bipolar #personalitydisorder #eupd #bpd #schizophrenia #endthestigma #relationships #love #ptsd #rocd #depression #anxietyawareness #mensmentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #mindfulness #therapistsofinstagram #mentalhealthsupport #mentalhealth #anxiety #wellbeing #mentalhealthawareness #dissociativeidentitydisorder #belltreatment #anxietytreatment #healing #blackmentalhealth #facts #thoughts

@bellanxietytreatment for mental health tips and awareness. Happy Wellness Wednesday! Many of us aren't getting enough sleep and it can really affect our mental health. @bellanxietytreatment for mental health tips and awareness. OCD Awareness Week (October 11-17, 2020) is an international effort led by the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF) to raise awareness and understanding about OCD and related disorders, with the goal of helping more people get access to evidence-based treatment and resources. OCD isn't just cleanliness like many people believe. Some types of OCD are listed below. ... Individuals with Gay OCD / HOCD / Sexual Orientation OCD obsessabout their sexual orientation. While many with HOCD are heterosexuals who obsess about the possibility that they are actually gay, a significant percentage of this population are gay people who obsess about the possibility that they may actually be straight. Individuals with Harm OCD obsess about the possibility that they may cause harm to others or themselves. Individuals with Scrupulosity OCD obsess about being guilty of religious, moral, or ethical failure. Individuals with Relationship OCD (ROCD) obsess about the strength, quality, and true nature of their love for their partner. At its core, ROCD is focused on two basic obsessions: What if I don’t really love my partner and What if I am with the wrong person. Women with Postpartum OCD may repeatedly worry that they will hurt their children, either by accident or on purpose. There are other types as well not mentioned here. Please seek out a therapist if you suspect you may have OCD. It isn't something you can get rid of on your own and it is complicated to treat, but you're not alone and it is treatable. @bellanxietytreatment for mental health tips and awareness. Introduced in 1992 by World Federation for Mental Health, World Mental Health Day is an international day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy. They range from common problems such as depression and anxiety, to less ...common issues such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. @bellanxietytreatment for mental health tips and awareness. October is Intimate PartnerViolence Awareness Month. These are a few of MANY examples. You have all probably heard of gaslighting, but that is just one form of emotional abuse. The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence reports that on average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. On a typical day, domestic violence hotlines across the country rece...ive more than 20,000 phone calls. Approximately 1 in 4 adult women and 1 in 7 adult men report having experienced severe physical violence from an intimate partner in their lifetime, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In addition, 16% of women and 7% of men have experienced sexual violence from an intimate partner. Physical abuse is more recognizable for a person than emotional abuse so I want to focus on this. It involves a person’s attempts to frighten, control, or isolate you. It’s in the abuser’s words and actions. The abuser could be your spouse or another romantic partner. Men are also victims of this type of abuse, but it is underreported due to embarrassment, shame, etc. This isn't a healthy relationship and you should make an exit plan. Mental health professionals do not provide couples counseling when IPV is present, as it is unsafe. Our goal is to ensure the victim's safety. Individual therapy is a start If you suspect you’re in this kind of relationship. It’s important to get outside support to understand what’s going on and to rebuild your self-esteem. If you aren’t in immediate danger, call the National Domestic Abuse Hotline at 800-799-7233. . . . . . . . #domesticviolence #domesticviolenceawarenessmonth #survivor #narcissist #narcissisticabuse #trauma #youarenotalone #abusesurvivor #emotionalabuse #ptsd #breakups #breakupquotes #heartbreak #heartbreakquotes #codependency #toxicrelationships #toxicrelationship #IfMyWoundsWereVisible #belltreatment #relationships #stress #depression #selflove #lgbt #mindfulness #facts #mentalhealth #wellbeing #domesticviolenceawareness #anxiety

@bellanxietytreatment for mental health tips and awareness. October is breast cancer awareness month. I'd like to focus on the mental health aspect for those who have been diagnosed or survived. Other than skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women. Mammograms are the best way to find breast cancer early, when it is easier to treat. ... For those who have been diagnosed or who have beaten cancer, this can really affect mental health. A breast cancer diagnosis can cause depression and/or anxiety. Feel your feelings and avoid the positive trap. You have a right to feel sad, angry, scared, etc. If you find that your anxieties, worries, or fears are interfering with your day-to-day activities or sleep habits, talk to your doctor to check physical health, and seek mental health treatment. Breast cancer treatment can cause side effects such as insomnia, memory changes, and mood swings. Hormone level changes can influence your emotions. Do not blame yourself. PTSD can trigger the emotions you experienced at diagnosis or during treatment. Fear of recurrence is normal. Accept your emotions, join support groups, practice mindfulness meditation, maintain a healthy lifestyle, etc. There are many ways to take care of your mental and physical health if you've been diagnosed. As well as continuing if you've beaten cancer. Comment if you need help finding resources. . . . . . #breastcancerawareness #breastcancer #breastcancerawarenessmonth #breastcancerwarrior #breastcancersurvivor #breastcancercare #breastcancerfighter #health #ptsd #selfcare #blackmentalhealth#positivemindset #selflove #selfcarethreads #mentalhealth #anxiety #wellbeing #stress #mentalhealthawareness #depression #warrior #mentalillness #belltreatment #checkup #survivor #mammogram #wellness #anxietytreatment #inspiration #goals

@bellanxietytreatment for mental health tips and awareness. Have you heard of Relationship OCD (ROCD)? Many people suffer from it but go undiagnosed. ROCD includes two common presentations: relationship-centered and partner-focused obsessive-compulsive symptoms. ... People with relationship-centered obsessions often feel overwhelmed by doubts and worries, focused on their feelings towards their partner, their partner’s feelings towards them, and the rightness of the relationship experience. They may often find themselves thinking Is this the right relationship for me?, This is not real love!, Do I feel ‘right’?, and Does my partner really love me? People who present with partner-focused obsessions may focus on their partner’s physical features (e.g., Her nose is too big.), social qualities (e.g., He is not social enough; She does not have what it takes to succeed in life.), or personality attributes, such as morality, intelligence, or emotional stability (e.g., She is not intelligent enough, He is not emotionally stable). Relationship-centered and partner-focused symptoms can often happen at the same time, and sometimes can even reinforce one another. If you feel this sounds familiar, see a therapist that specializes in OCD for an evaluation. Not every therapist knows how to diagnose and treat OCD so it is important that you find someone who does.
