The PTA Reflections Art Program is now accepting entries! Create an original piece of artwork based the theme "I Matter Because...." and submit it to ASMSM PTA online here before November 1: https://forms.gle/AX6kKYxKCabqThsu9 Specific rules and guidelines are at: https://asmsm-pta.square.site... Students can create a piece of original artwork in one of six categories: Dance Choreography Consider the following styles and ensembles to portray your original choreography: Ballet, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Jazz, Tap, Folk Dance, Religious Dance, Dance Ensembles (color guard/indoor guard), Ice Skating/Dancing and Gymnastics-floor Routine. Film Production Consider the following styles to portray your original work of fiction or nonfiction: Animation, Documentary, Experimental, Multimedia Literature Consider the following literary styles to portray your original work of fiction or nonfiction: Prose, Poetry, Drama, Reflective essay, Narrative, Short story. Music Composition Consider the following musical styles and instruments to portray your original composition: A Cappella, Blues, Choral, Country, Electronic, Hip hop, Jazz, Latin, Musical, Orchestral, Pop, R&B, Religious, Rock, Symphonic/Concert Band and Traditional. Photography Accepted forms of photography include: A single photo, panoramic, photomontage (one print of multiple original photos), a multiple exposure, negative sandwich or photogram. Original black-and- white and color images are accepted. Visual Art Accepted forms of visual art include: Architecture (2D/3D), carpentry, ceramics, collages, photographic collages (multiple photos cut/pasted), computer-generated image, crafts, design, dioramas, drawing, fiberwork, jewelry, kites, metal etching/punch work, mobiles, painting, printmaking, sculpture and wind chimes.

Later this year, we will have an online exhibition of everyone's ar...twork, and the winning entries will go on to compete at the California State PTA Reflections contest! ASMSM PTA is very excited to announce that we're bringing the National PTA Reflections Art Program to our school this fall! This awesome arts program helps kids explore their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence, and build a love for learning that will help them become more successful in school and life. Categories include Music Composition, Visual Arts, Photography, Literature, Film Production, and Dance Choreography. Our young art...ists will get the opportunity to express themselves in a number of ways with the inspiration of the student-selected theme "I Matter Because..." We'll keep everyone updated with more information as the program rolls out. We hope to find some parent or community volunteers who may specialize in some of these categories to give a quick inspirational or informative Zoom meeting to get the kids excited and thinking about what they can create! Our Grab & Go Food Centers are open Monday through Friday from 7 am to 10 am. Two meals are provided per person. As of September 1 and until further notice, LA ...Unified students and their parents do NOT need to show a barcode in order to pick up meals. Los Angeles Unified will continue to provide nutritious meals to students and community members who need them while students are learning in virtual classrooms. We are very excited to partner with Joy on York next month to raise money for ASMSM PTA! Joy says, "Our space was once home to Elsa’s Bakery, a beloved and longstanding fixture in the community. Mr. and Mrs. Vargas ran Elsa’s for over 40 years and the family still owns the building today. As an homage to our location’s heritage, we bake Mexican wedding cookies daily in house. We give all proceeds of cookie sales to a nonprofit partner--typically in Highland Park or the large...r NE Los Angeles area--each month, as we believe in contributing to the community we call home. Past partners have included Optimist Youth Homes, AMP Youth Arts, and a local backpack drive. Our hope is that over time, we can lead others in striving to create positive impact in our neighborhood." Kona Ice will be at Sycamore Grove Park on Wednesday, September 2nd from 4:00pm-7:00pm. They will be selling their delicious shaved ice. Prices are $4 & $6.
