Neighbors don’t let neighbors go hungry. The Riverside Community & Economic Development Department, in partnership with the Riverside Mutual Aid Network and IEH...P, is launching the Little Free Pantry program to address food insecurity. The program will establish 26 free community pantries across Riverside neighborhoods to alleviate some of the hunger that Riverside families face. This is an incredible opportunity to establish neighborhood support networks, build stronger communities and help our neighbors facing food insecurity during these uncertain times. Please email [email protected] for an application.

Effective leaders unify their communities around a positive, common purpose. My mission as mayor is to unify Riverside for the common purpose of working togethe...r to tackle the great challenges of our day. The only way to accomplish this is through respect and civility toward our fellow Riversiders. I ask that you join me in a new year pledge to foster an environment that is more kind, respectful, and inclusive of othersboth on social media and in our daily lives. This is the great work of democracy and responsibility that we must carry in our hearts and minds, executed through our words and actions. For more on how we will build a more inclusive and respectful Riverside, tune in to the State of the City Address on January 28th at 5pm.

COVID-19 VACCINATION SCAM AWARENESS We would like to share important information with you from Riverside County Department of Public Health. If someone offe...rs to sell you the COVID-19 vaccine or a chance to get vaccinated before it’s your turn... It’s a scam. If someone asks you to pay a deposit or to pay for the vaccine, DO NOT PAY, it is a scam. Sadly, whenever there is an opportunity for money to be made, criminals will do whatever it takes to try and fool you. If you would like more information in regards to the vaccine, you can visit their website at www.ruhealth.org/covid-19-vaccine. See more

Let’s have a Responsible Reopening, Riverside! Fortunately, our county is making strides in meeting the criteria for the Substantial Tier (Tier 2/red). With new... State announcements coming out every Tuesday, we want to ensure our community continues to move in the right direction! Should we advance to the next tier, some sectors could move indoors with modifications as soon as Wednesday. Whether it’s getting back to school, dining indoors, or enjoy a movie at the theater, it’s imperative our community does so responsibly. Now is not the time to ease up; stay vigilant in protecting your health by wearing a mask, avoiding large gatherings, and continue to get tested. EDD UNEMPLOYMENT MAIL FRAUD Riverside, CA The Riverside Police Department’s Economic Crimes Unit has experienced a significant increase in calls regarding... community members receiving mail from the Employment Development Department (EDD) in other person’s names. We have also received increased calls from victims whose identity has been stolen to acquire fraudulent EDD unemployment benefits. A common complaint by our citizens is they cannot contact anyone at EDD by phone or email. Our Fraud Detectives are having similar problems and cannot get through to EDD directly at times. It appears that EDD is completely overwhelmed with questions, complaints, and reports related to legitimate unemployment claims and fraudulent applications. Please note that on their website, the EDD suggests recipients of unintended mail should send the mail back return to sender. Be aware that suspects of this mail fraud scheme are showing up at homes and taking the incoming and returned mail from the mailboxes. Some residents have even been contacted at their home, then coerced and threatened into relinquishing the EDD mail. For this reason, the Riverside Police Department requests that we be contacted and the suspicious mail be turned over to our officers as soon as it is discovered. If you reside in the city of Riverside and have received suspicious mail from the EDD or any other states’ unemployment offices, please contact our Public Safety Communications Center at (951) 354-2007 so that an officer can be sent to your residence to collect the suspicious mail. Today is National Thank a Police Officer Day. Words cannot properly express my gratitude for the men and women of law enforcement and the work they do to keep o...ur residents and communities safe from crime and violence especially now as their profession is being vilified by too many. And to our Riverside Police Officers, I particularly want to thank you for the work you do 24 hours a day protecting the people of our city. Whatever political pressure may be applied to this City Council, let me assure you that I will ALWAYS have your back and NEVER vote to Defund the Police. God bless all of our noble and brave peace officers at the city, county, state, and federal levels.

As you may recall, every year- on the anniversary of September 11, we gather throughout the City to remember, honor, and thank our First Responders. Unfortunate...ly, this year with the uncertainty of COVID, we are unable to host a Never Forget 9/11 Day of Service at the capacity of other years. While we cannot host a Day of Service like years past, I encourage and look to the community to give back and participate in the Day of Service from home! Please see flyer below to learn of different opportunities to serve in honor of Riverside’s First Responders and stay tuned for a special tribute video that will be released tomorrow. #Riverside911DayofService See more

City of Riverside’s Never Forget 9-11 Day of Service Goes Virtual: Our commitment to remembering those who lost their lives on that terrible day and our eager...ness to honor our first responders remains the same, but our method of expressing those values has changed this year, Mayor Rusty Bailey said. I look forward to seeing Riversiders remember 9-11 in a thoughtful and responsible way. Our citywide remembrance event endures even in the face of the pandemic, City Councilmember Jim Perry, one of the co-creators of the event, said. My thanks to all the organizations and volunteers who persevered in the face of challenging circumstances. A new video recapping in-person activities from previous years and featuring new, pre-recorded content will be released on Sept. 11, at 9:11 a.m. That video, featuring musical performances and recorded messages of thanks, and including archival footage of Riverside’s first responders at Ground Zero in New York will be available for viewing on Facebook, Twitter, IGTV, and YouTube.
