As we continue to celebrate #BlackHistoryMonth, today we recognize and congratulate Black Lives Matter and it's co-founders Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors and Opal Tometi for their Nobel Peace Prize nomination! Black Lives Matter has become a worldwide movement, calling upon all of us to confront and combat racial injustice in our own lives, and on national and global scales. Let us continue to heed that call, to take action, and to fight for a just world for ALL. Days of the Dead is celebrated all over Latin America as a celebration of life and remembrance of loved ones who have passed away. October 31st is dedicated to babies, November 1st All Saints Day is for the souls of the children, and November 2nd is All Souls Day when people pay their respects to the adults. It is tradition to take the favorite food and drinks of the person who has passed away and have a celebration at the cemetery. Those who are unable to go to the cemetery,... set up an altar at their homes with pictures of their loved ones with their favorite foods, drinks, and objects. These are offerings to the souls that come to visit every year and are guided by the marigold flower. We also place objects that represent the four elements: earth, wind, water, fire. This is a culturally significant event in that it provides a special moment during which time we are connected to our past, our ancestors, while we are also connecting with our current family. #diasdelosmuertos #daysofthedead #apch2830 See more

Exposition Park is for everyone. - Diane Hamwi, Chair of the Board of Directors for Exposition Park and the California Science Center. Our Executive Director Jonathan Zeichner was proud to serve on the Community Advisory Committee helping to develop the recently approved Master Plan that will guide the development of Exposition Park, and provide greater access to this incredible resource and equity for our community for years to come. This week, volunteers from Target shared their time to tackle two tremendous projects in the APCH gardens! Thanks to Target's positive people power, we hit a bullseye (we couldn't resist ) on our goal to distribute 14 yards of mulch (that's half a ton!) to prepare Newton and St. Patrick's garden beds for winter planting. Thank you, Target, for sharing helping hands and a generous sponsorship to ensure the APCH gardens remain spaces that provide education and nourishment for the APCH community. #thankyouvolunteers #apch2830
