Passing Prop. 15 would bring $11,171,961 in additional funds each year to Antioch Unified.... These are local dollars that can be used to reduce class sizes, support educators and fund COVID-19 related needs, technology and the like. We are 35 days away from one of the most important elections of our time. For more than 40 years, large corporations like Chevron, Walmart and Bank of America have taken advantage of corporate property tax loopholes and are still paying 1978 rates. It’s time to put our Schools and Communities First! Prop. 15 protects homeowners and small businesses, while closing property tax loopholes for big corporations to bring the resources to our schools and communities that our students need and deserve.

From Superintendent Anello: Good afternoon, I hope you and your loved ones are well. As you are most likely aware, Governor Newsom recently put forth guidance that does not allow public schools to open until the County the school or district resides in is off the State COVID watch list for at least 14 days. Contra Costa County currently remains on the watchlist and will most likely not be off the list for fourteen days prior to the scheduled school start date of September 1st.... To allow students and staff to plan, we will be sending out a communication (in both English and Spanish) to all parents/guardians letting them know that school will start in full distance learning on September 1st and we will re-evaluate the possibility of re-opening fully and/or in a hybrid schedule each school quarter. The end of the first quarter is October 30th. A copy of the correspondence going to families this week can be found on our AUSD website under our News link. Although students are welcome to use their own electronic devices, the letter also includes a schedule for laptop device pick-up for families who may need them. Please note that although we had a large amount prior to the pandemic, we have greatly increased the number of devices in AUSD so that families with multiple children who need a device can be served. We understand that each of you has a unique situation that may make starting school in full distance learning a challenge. However, please know that every decision we have made thus far has been first and foremost predicated on the health and safety of students and staff and that we hope to work with you on mitigating your unique challenges if possible. Although it is still a draft in progress,we are creating a parent/student/staff toolkit that may answer many of the questions you may have regarding distance learning in the fall. Please know that we are currently bargaining the impact of full distance/hybrid learning with our bargaining units, so the toolkit may be revised accordingly. Here is a link to the draft toolkit (the Toolkit is currrntly being translated for our Spanish speaking families): https://www.antiochschools.net///ParentTOOLKIT_English.pdf. Thank you again for your support of our families, students, and District. While there are many unanswered questions and still much work to be done, I am proud of the work we have accomplished with your support thus far, and I look forward to a successful school opening on September 1st. Very sincerely yours, Stephanie Anello Superintendent
