What's Possible When You Tap Into Your Entrepreneurial Genius I always knew I wanted to start a business. I just didn’t know what that was.... A tech company? A franchise? A coaching business? They all sounded pretty far-fetched. So I just did my best to forget about it. And then Shark Tank came out ‘You idiots! Take the damn deal!’ I could hardly watch... That’s when I decided that I just had to try and see if I could hack it. The only problem was that the idea of starting a tech company was beyond intimidating. And starting a franchise requires start up money that I just didn’t have. And coaching? Come on. That’s not even a real business. But then it hit me There’s practically no start up costs. And anyone can do it if they can deliver results. But would I ever make any money doing it? While it’s true that a lot of coaches struggle to make 6 figures. Those who tap into their entrepreneurial genius go on to create multiple 6 figure businesses and beyond. By the time I put the finished touches on my business model I discovered that I’d done just that. The Secret to Overcoming Fear of Failure Changing careers to tech sales was the best move I could have made. I was floundering in my career before transitioning into tech sales.... I wasn't being challenged and I just felt bored. Then I joined a startup. At 31 I was hammering out cold calls with the best of them. Determined to rise through the ranks I did whatever it took to be the top SDR. Within 6 months I’d hustled my way into my first AE position. A year and a half later I moved up to the enterprise team. I had enough with mediocrity and made the decision to create my own success through sheer determination. After starting my business as a career coach I soon discovered that this happens to be the most important quality of a successful entrepreneur. If you’re the type of person who lives by the motto ‘where there’s a will there’s a way’ then you’ve got a bright future if you ever decide to start a business. The Right Time to Start a Business I may have chosen the worst possible time to start my coaching business. I could barely work a full day due to health issues.... I didn’t have nearly enough savings to float me. I hadn’t even spent much time researching the business I was about to start. But I did it anyway. At some point I realized that there is no such thing as good timing. I’d wanted to start a business for years but I just kept putting it off. I kept telling myself that I just wasn’t ready yet (read scared). And then life forced my hand. I developed a psychosomatic injury that was the result of denying my truth for so long. My body would no longer cooperate. It was at that point that I finally heeded the call. The amazing thing is that it didn’t matter that it was the worst possible time. I made it work anyways. Because there is no such thing as a best or worst time for anything. There’s only the commitment that you make to see it through. That’s why the right time to start a business is the minute that you know that it is your path. To deny your truth is to delay the inevitable.
