PLEASE SUPPORT OUR STUDENT NURSES! SIGN PETITION. 78 nursing students from College of the Desert were given an email on August 18th, 2020 just before the start of their 2020 fall semester, from the Vice President of College of the Desert. The email sent devastated 78 nursing students as they were told the fall semester would be placed on hold WITHOUT guarantee that the Spring session would continue. Prior to Fall semester closure: Students have been cleared by their prospecti...ve clinical rotation sites for the past 3 weeks. Students had the proper Personal Protective Equipment in place for set clinical rotations this 2020 fall semester. Students had access to N95 masks with set scheduled times and dates for mask fittings, however, were canceled the day before the fittings. Faculty had in place student waivers that would allow students to continue with the progress of their nursing education, knowing the high risk of catching COVID-19. California is number 1 in nursing shortage in the country. 40 student nurses are 3 months away from graduating this fall and relieving some of the nurses in the field, who have burnout, and are working long hours. Coachella Valley has been hit hard in the state with COVID- 19 spread. It would be a great disservice not only to the student nurses who dedicated years of their lives to achieve their calling, but thousands of Coachella Valley citizens who are in desperate need of nurses in our community. The hospitals in our area are flooded with the nursing registry, travel nurses, and float nurses. It is ESSENTIAL the nursing program at College of the Desert continues to remain open this fall, in order to supply the Coachella Valley with the nurses who can give the community quality and dedicated patient care, side by side with their brothers and sisters. In the midst of all this chaos , College of the Desert nursing students want nothing more than to give the community of Coachella Valley a fighting chance to beat this pandemic. On behalf of the entire community of Coachella Valley, friends, family members, and the entire student nursing body of College of the Desert we are pleading that you help us open our fall semester . We are pleading with the Board of Trustees to reconsider their decision to postpone our fall semester. See more

10 ways to help a Senior! 1. Show them you’re available Keep in touch by phone, email or in person so they know someone is there for them when they need support. Don’t give up on them if they don’t call or visit you in return, but if they need time alone, try to respect that.... 2. Offer to take them out If it’s difficult for them to get out and about, you could volunteer to take them out, for example to a café or to visit a friend. There might even be a local charity who could help if you don’t have much spare time. Just don’t push them into anything, as it might seem daunting to them at first. 3. Ask how they’re feeling By talking to them about how they’re feeling, without leading them into any particular issue, you might find out that something else is troubling them. Try not to make assumptions about why they are lonely there are many reasons why someone might be feeling loneliness. 4. Enlist expert help Some people might feel more comfortable talking about their feelings to a stranger or professional. If it seems appropriate, you could suggest they speak to their GP or call a charity helpline. [Read more: Alone at Christmas? 10 ways to feel less lonely] 5. Be dependable Missing a visit or phone call may not seem important to you, but could be very disappointing for someone who doesn’t have much contact with others, so try to be reliable. 6. Help them discover new ways to stay in touch There are a huge range of different ways to stay in touch these days, from social media to email and text messaging. If they don’t feel comfortable using computers, you could encourage them to join a course to learn how to use computers and the internet, which are run by most local councils. 7. Help them to try something new If they have a particular interest, joining a group, such as a rambling club, reading group or dance class, could help them connect with like-minded people. If they show an interest in an activity, you could offer to go with them to the first session if they’re nervous about going alone. 8. Talk about practical barriers Barriers such as not having a car, not having enough money or being a full-time carer could be preventing them from connecting with people or getting out and about. Talk to them about what these barriers may be and encourage them to speak to Independent Age on 0800 319 6789 for help overcoming them. 9. Ask other people for help If you’re very busy or live far away, you don’t need to feel like you have to do everything yourself. See if anyone else, such as a friend, neighbor, relative or charity volunteer, can regularly call or visit the person who is lonely. 10. Host a Sunday lunch oh....and tell them about us/ ADS. We are always open. 24/7! Companion Care & Concierge Services may be a fit! 760-466-8089

ADS loves this story. A granddaughter had an upcoming wedding. She know that her grandmother was probably not going to be able to make it to the wedding it was out of state. She flew out to her grandmother with her wedding dress and had professional pictures taken without telling anyone. She shared the private photo shoot with the family these are the results. The pictures speak for themselves. This is The definition of careGIVING.
