ON THIS DAY. 1895 in Downtown Los Angeles Sam Haskins was killed in the line of duty responding to a fire-when he fell off the tailboard of the Fire Engine. Detroit Fire Sgt. Sivad Johnson passed away performing an off duty swim rescue which saved the life of his daughter. He was 49 years old with 26 years on the job.
