Old Town Newhall Farmers Market 06.11.2020

Our market and Halloween are both this Saturday. We have invited our farmers and food artisans to be in costume and we hope you will too, kids especially (note: picture is from last year)! We will also have treats to pass out to all the kids (adults too) that come out. So have a little fun this Saturday while shopping for the best fruits, vegetables, meats, eggs, flowers, seafood and artisan food goods. We are sad we have to skip holding a big event this year but we still hope to have a little fun this Saturday. See us from 8:30 until 1pm in the parking lot of the Old Town Newhall library.

Good morning Santa Clarita! We are getting set up and ready to open. We love the smell of fresh bread in the morning. The bakers from Little's Loaves & Boole's are here with their new brioche hamburger buns. We have everything here in the market to make the burger of your dreams, from pasture-raised grass-fed beef to all of the toppings you can think of including dairy direct cheese. We open at 8:30 here in the parking lot of the Old Town Newhall Library. Come on down and see us.

Pumpkins! Yes, the market is tomorrow and we will have plenty of farm-direct pumpkins. But if you are looking for ordinary plain pumpkins, look elsewhere. There are over 100 different pumpkin varieties such as Green Goblin, Cinderella, Fairytale and Blue Jarrahdale. These are true beauties and we will have a nice selection tomorrow. While many of these are great for carving or decoration, all of them are edible. In fact, they are very tasty. We like to use them both ways. We... have our uncarved pumpkins out for decoration. Then, before Thanksgiving, we cut them open. After cleaning and baking we scoop out the pulp and make the most amazing pumpkin pie. Did you know that most canned pumpkin is not really pumpkin? Canned pumpkin is often completely or partially butternut squash. Cooking a real pumpkin for holiday cooking or baking is super easy. We will post a how-to video in the coming weeks so you can serve up real pumpkin pie this year. Grab your pumpkins tomorrow and get ready for the holidays! The market is from 8:30 until 1pm in the parking lot of the Old Town Newhall library.

This Saturday, our second collaboration this week is the Date Night Package from @Buono Italian Eatery. The pack comes with an order of their hand made ravioli, a jar of sauce, a loaf of focaccia bread from @Little's Loaves and Boole's and a shareable small pumpkin pie. The package also includes a pumpkin/caramel candle. How cool is this? The date night package is $55. Pickup tomorrow at the market under the Buono canopy. The market is open 8:30 until 1pm in the parking lot of the Old Town Newhall library.

We are open every Saturday, rain or shine, from 8:30 until 1pm in the parking lot of the Old Town Newhall library.

Planning a smaller get together this year? If a whole turkey is too big, Harvest Gathering Farm has you covered. You can pre-order turkey breasts, legs, thighs, wings, sausage and even gravy. Quantities are limited and deposits must be placed via their website at https://harvestgatheringfarm.com/. Pickup and final payment will take place at the market the Saturday prior to Thanksgiving. And, if you want a medium or large turkey, there are just a handful still available. All o...f this will sell out. Rancher/owner Wendy is very proud of their slow growing Black Spanish heritage breed turkeys. The birds are pasture raised in the hills of Ojai. They are given plenty of room to forage for food and are also fed leftover veggies/fruits from farmers markets and when needed their diet is supplemented with feed that is free from GMOs/Corn/Soy. We can testify that their turkey has been the centerpiece of our Thanksgiving celebration since they came to our market two years ago. We have never had a turkey that even comes close to the quality and taste that their does. It is simply amazing and is truly something special. Pre-order today before it is too late. We look forward to seeing everyone at the market this Saturday.

Visit them Saturdays when you come out to the market. Next week, Egg Plantation is serving up a special breakfast to help repair damages and losses at Barn and Charm. It's California Farm and Farmworker Month! This week, we celebrate Dino Verni and farm-worker Nick from Verni and Halaby Farms. In 1923, the Verni Family began growing olives and making olive oil in the Italian Village of Sannicandro di Bari. In 1980, The Verni family brought their cold pressing equipment to Clovis, California where they continued the family business. Today, they produce some of the finest cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil in the state. They control the e...ntire process from growing, curing, pressing and bottling their oil. Our customers love their olive oil and also their almonds, walnuts, apples, cherries, figs, oranges and other products. You will find them and all of our other farmers every Saturday, rain or shine, in the parking lot of the Old Town Newhall Library from 8:30 until 1pm. Thank you for shopping local and supporting small family farms! #supportlocal #supportsmallbusiness #californiagrown #cagrown
