We were very saddened to learn of the passing of Jack Bally, EAA 348338, earlier this week. Jack's one-third scale B-17 was the talk of #OSH18 and is one of the... more memorable projects we've seen in a long time. Here's the video we produced a few years ago on Bally's Bomber. Our deepest condolences go out to Jack's family and friends. See more

"DART and Bay Area Catastrophic Earthquake Airlift Exercise Oct 26" Topic: Learn about DART and a Bay Area wide exercise on October 26. On Thursday, October 10,... 2019 at 19:00 Pacific Daylight Time Location: Trade Winds Aviation / Reid-Hillview Airport 2500 Cunningham Ave. Terminal Building San Jose, CA 95148 Select Number: WP1596094 Description: Come hear Paul Marshall describe what Disaster Airlift Response Teams (DART) are and update us on the upcoming Bay Area Catastrophic Earthquake Exercise scheduled on October 26. The exercise is sponsored by CalDART, the California DART Network and is being jointly conducted by the 5 Bay Area DART Operators SCAPA DART from San Martin Airport, WEACT from Watsonville Airport, San Mateo County DART from the Half Moon Bay and San Carlos Airports, North Bay DART from 5 airports in Marin, Sonoma, and Napa Counties, and CAAPSO DART from Reid Hillview Airport. The Torrance DART will be flying up to provide mutual aid to the Bay Area DART Operators. The exercise will be the largest yet of the last 8 years of Bay Area DART exercises, and will utilize the Bay Area UASI (Urban Area Security Initiative) catastrophic earthquake scenario where a magnitude 7.9 earthquake has occurred on the San Andreas Fault near the Golden Gate Bridge - surface transportation will be substantially impaired throughout the Bay Area, and a national emergency response is anticipated with support from our local and statewide network of DART Operators. Paul will describe how GA efforts can augment the overall disaster response, what methods the DART Operators employ, and how safety is maintained in a potentially chaotic environment. He will describe how the concept of DART was inspired by the highly success Lifeline Airlift into the Watsonville Airport after the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake. That magnitude 6.9 earthquake isolated the communities of Santa Cruz and Watsonville - highway 17 was not fully reopened for 30 days. One half million pounds of food and supplies was airlifted into the people in need.
