NONPROFIT FARMLINK TEAMS UP WITH ANGEL FLIGHT WEST TO FLY FRESH PRODUCE TO TWO OF THE MOST FOOD INSECURE COUNTIES IN CALIFORNIA SALINAS, CA. (Aug. 5, 2020) The COVID-19 crisis continues, and hunger in America is at an all time high. Some interns, passionate about finding new ways to service food insecure communities, connected Angel Flight West with the three month old non-profit, The Farmlink Project. Run entirely by college students, The Farmlink Project is taking step...s toward ending food insecurity by delivering directly to some of the most impacted areas in the United States. Both the Farmlink Project and Angel Flight West are volunteer driven organizations. Founded in 1983, Angel Flight West has been arranging free non-emergency air travel for children and adults with serious medical conditions and other compelling needs, including COVID-19 relief flights. Friday, August 7th, at 10 a.m. Farmlink will deliver 320 fresh produce boxes to the Salinas Municipal Airport in Monterey County CA. From the Airport, twenty-two volunteer pilots will load planes with these boxes and fly from Salinas to two different food banks in need: Tehama Together in Tehama County and Clearlake Gleaners in Lake county. Tehama and Lake county are two of the top eight most food insecure places in California. The Farmlink Project partnered with Aggrigator Inc to source 320 USDA Farms to Families Produce Boxes, full of fresh fruits and vegetables from farms around California, and organize transportation to these two under-served areas. Friday will be the first time The Farmlink Project transports their rescued produce via plane. This collaboration ensures that families will receive healthy, organic produce, in a timely manner. While food banks are accustomed to receiving shipments from trucks, this partnership demonstrates a creative alternative to standard emergency relief efforts to support those experiencing food insecurity or insufficiency, as volunteer-run organizations don't drive, but fly, surplus produce to communities in dire need. This will be an incredibly unique event; you will want to be a part of it.

The Salinas Municipal Airport is the Regional Hub for Monterey County and is pleased to provide our support to Monterey County Medical Society in their effort to distribute Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to our local physician practices during this COVID19 pandemic. The Airport will be providing easy in and out access to our facility for the distribution of this very important Personal Protective Equipment. On Monday, July 27, 2020, from 8:00 am 3:00 pm, the northside ...hangars ramp will be used by Monterey County Medical Society to distribute medical grade Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). We expect approximately 150 vehicles to enter and exit the airport through gate 12. The scheduled event will impact tenants’ access in Hangars Rows A, B, D, E, & P during the scheduled time frame. Tenant’s vehicle access utilizing gates on the northside to access the airfield, will not be impacted. Aircraft taxing to and from the northside T Hangars may be impacted. Tenants located in hangars A, B, D, E, & P who need access to their hangar’s or plan on using their aircraft during the event, please contact the airport administration office for assistance.
