WLC Architects is excited to celebrate the ribbon cutting of the West Covina Unified School District Sports Complex project! This highly anticipated project features over 55,000 sf of re-imagined space for aquatic and athletics activities and serves as the central hub for the track and field complex, baseball and football fields, newly renovated basketball courts, and concession areas. WCUSD students and the neighboring community can now enjoy a 25-yard by 52.5-meter Olympic ...swimming pool year-round as a result of the pool’s highly sustainable thermal-solar heat design, in addition to dual-use space for various additional athletic activities. We wish to congratulate the District, as well our associated building partners and subcontractor/consultant teams for a tremendous effort! #WLC #WLCArchitects #ClientFocusedPassionDriven #Architecture #BalfourBeatty #AquaticDesignGroup #WestCovinaUSD

Celebrating a mid-point in construction of two projects at Moreno Valley High School, WLC Architects, in conjunction with JSFA and Neff Construction, sponsored an In-N-Out truck for the construction workers on site today. In addition to the sponsoring companies, the event was attended by the school’s principal and key District staff including Superintendent Martinrex Kedziora as well as members of the Board. All made a point to express their appreciation to the workers in attendance. There were 150 meals served with plenty of space for the necessary social distancing. In light of COVID-19, we felt it would be good to pause a moment to recognize and express our gratitude for the extra effort it takes for contractors to safely complete their work.

The West Covina USD Edgewood High School Aquatics project currently underway is approximately two months away from completion. Earlier this week, the WLC Design Team got a chance to experience the craning-in of the 12,000 pound stainless steel-framed, PVC-cladded movable bulkhead that divides the Myrtha 52.5 meter x 25 yard Olympic-sized pool. The movable bulkhead allows different swim events to occur simultaneously and will be operated manually by utilizing a vertical stainless steel chrome plated ship’s wheel yet to be installed.

Commemorative Palm Tree Installation Rowland High School Rowland Unified School District Following almost four years of continuous construction on multiple major Additions to Rowland High School, WLC Architects teamed with Ledesma and Meyer Construction Management and ACC General Contractors to donate a pair of twenty foot tall specimen palm trees inside the school’s new security entry breezeway structure. The gift was the design and construction team’s way of saying thank y...ou to the school staff and administration for being so resilient and accommodating while living through years and years of dust, noise, construction barriers, and utility shut downs. The trees will stand as a special testimony to the Class of 2020 who never knew a single day of high school without construction workers on their campus. And who will of course now experience even further disruption with the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on their final weeks and graduation ceremonies. The Palm tree installation was completed with the help of a 60 foot tall crane, whose long reach allowed each tree to be hoisted through holes in the breezeway’s roof and down into the pre-prepared planters. A team of twelve was involved in the morning long installation. Jim DiCamillo, Principal Architect, was on hand through it all but was only required to hold his breath while each tree precariously ‘dangled’ above the recently completed $40 million Campus Addition. Piece of cake! WLC expresses our gratitude to the school, its students and the Rowland USD for allowing the design and construction team to say ‘thank you’ with this extraordinary installation. Go Rowland Raiders!

WLC Architects and Miller Construction recently completed an extensive interior and exterior modernization and addition project at the Ontario Center Elementary School in the Cucamonga School District. The facility, originally designed by WLC in 1989, resides on the original Ontario Motor Speedway Site built in the late 1960s. Graphic racing cues throughout the campus pay homage to the historical significance of the site. There’s a kindergarten trike track designed to resembl...e motor gears, a checkered flag concrete drive at the entrance of the school and digital wall murals throughout, all pointing to the site’s iconic racing heritage. The campus is entirely self-contained within a single structure and includes three new next-generation learning classroom wing additions. A full-service kitchen expansion, multipurpose room, and library adds to the capabilities and learning opportunities offered on campus. Parents now enjoy a more efficient student drop-off and parking area, and students have an upgraded outdoor play areas that also provide flexible spaces to incorporate learning outside the classroom. Sustainability was addressed by integrating new high-efficiency, individually controlled HVAC units with energy-efficient thermal glass in each classroom. Also, new solar panel shade structures and drought-tolerant landscaping and irrigation system upgrades will keep the campus energy-efficient. A new, secure single point of entry through administration offers an added level of security for the campus. The completion of this project for Ontario Center Elementary School and the Cucamonga School District represents another addition in building a bright future for the district, students and community.

WLC Architects was honored to be invited back to the award-winning King/Drew Magnet High School of Medicine and Science to participate at their annual Career Day event. Mark Graham, Principal Architect at WLC, worked on the design team over 28 years ago with Jackie Bassman and Robert Uribe as they designed the facility to address the specific needs of this groundbreaking program. It was a distinct honor for WLC to return to the campus and be able to interact with the studen...ts that we serve. Now, almost three decades later, King/Drew Magnet High School of Medicine and Science boasts one of the highest graduation rates in the nation (95%), with 70% of students continuing their education at a four-year university. It is no wonder why King/Drew is ranked one of the top high schools in the nation in this category! With thousands of students who have graduated from King/Drew since its inception 38 years ago, the positive impact on communities, families, and the lives of each of these students is immeasurable. Thank you for inviting us to be a part of your story - and keep up the great work!
