Congratulations to Bonnie Sherman, our 2021 Cathy and Eric Von der Porten Stewardship honoree. During her time on the SCEF Board, Bonnie has served as a Brittan Acres SCEF Rep, VP of Volunteer Appreciation, and most recently as VP Fund-the-Future. As VP of Fund-the-Future, she led the effort to craft the campaign, interviewed teachers and administrators, worked with our videographer to produce the Fund-the-Future video and helped to draft appeals. Bonnie's efforts resulted in the most successful Fund-the-Future campaign in SCEF's history, raising funds for the implementation of a new science curriculum. Thank you, Bonnie, for dedicating your time and talents to make a such a positive impact on our school community!

We are proud to honor Roberta Marks with the 2021 Mark Olbert Service Award for generously and unconditionally donating her time and energy to the San Carlos Education Foundation. A parent of a San Carlos Charter student, Roberta joined the SCEF board in 2015-16 as Co-VP of several Starlight Gala events. Her role ultimately grew to VP Events as she took on the oversight of all SCEF events including the annual Evening at TOWN. Thank you, Roberta, for your tireless behind-the-scenes work to produce such wonderful community building and fundraising affairs!

As the school year comes to a close, SCEF would like to say a final thank you to our business sponsors for their commitment to San Carlos public schools. Hazel has been a passionate community volunteer for over 10 years, dedicating her time, energy, and talents to the schools of San Carlos. She has served on the board of the San Carlos Education Foundation, as a PTA leader at Arundel and Terra Linda, and as a Healthy Cities tutoring volunteer. SCEF Virtual Auction Fund-A-Need raffle winners enjoyed an evening at The French Laundry this past weekend. Congratulations to long-time SCEF supporters Joelle and Doug Lumish, who reported a divine dining experience adhering to COVID-19 safety precautions. The SCEF Board voted to endorse Prop 15 Schools and Communities First, a proposition that aligns with SCEF’s mission to provide funding for our local public schools. The California Schools & Local Communities Funding Act could raise an estimated $1.8 million annually for the San Carlos School District and $12 billion annually statewide for schools and local communities. In addition to support for schools, San Mateo County would receive $830 million for local public services. SCEF is thrilled to announce that the School Board approved an amendment to the budget to provide Music for Minors to K-4. Music for Minors is a local nonprofit and leading provider of comprehensive, sequential standards-based music education. Their mission is to nurture in children a lifelong love of music.
