The Ethnic Minority Early Identification and Development Program identifies CTA members of color who are interested in expanding their roles in CTA. The EMEID program goal is to increase the number of CTA leaders of color. Once accepted into the program, participants are paired with a coach who assists them in defining goals and identifying appropriate steps to achieve those goals. The program builds on existing CTA/NEA programs, trainings, conferences, events as well as incorporates interaction and coaching with local chapter, CTA, and NEA leadership & CTA Staff. https://www.cta.org/about-us/leadership/emeid

Tell your U.S. Senator to pass the HEROES Act now! This much-needed federal funding would address state and local budget gaps, and help our schools during this time of crisis. https://educationvotes.nea.org/issue/covid-19/

The members of the Fresno/Madera Service Center Council Equity Team would like to share a message from your California Teachers Association about the Black Lives Matter movement. Your Equity Team absolutely stands in solidarity with and is entirely supportive of the Black Lives Matter movement and of the work that CTA is doing to promote racial and social justice. Below, you'll find the official statement from CTA in which they offer their support to the Black Lives Matter m...ovement and call us to action. Now, more than ever, we need to actively get involved in this work. In solidarity and against injustice, Marina Santos, Human Rights Advocacy Coordinator Meghan Schimmel, LGBTQ+ Advocacy Coordinator Gina Skov, Women's Advocacy Coordinator Blas Manuel De Luna, Minority-at-Large CTA Statement: On social media: As a union of 310,000 educators across California, we have an obligation to act. This is not a time for us to look away. We must grapple with the fact that our schools, our practices, policies and even our own union, are shaped by inequities, bias and institutional racism. Our black students and educators experience schools, the police and this pandemic very differently than our white students and educators. Saying #BlackLivesMatter isn’t enough: we need to actively show it in our work toward anti-racism on a personal, structural and institutional level. We are grieving and we are outraged. Together, we must continue the call for justice and to hold powerful people, organizations and each other, accountable. What are you doing to work toward anti-racism every day? News release: We are grieving, and we are outraged by the hateful racism and white supremacy that continues to terrorize our communities of color. The murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor demand that we, as educators and Americans, recognize and confront the institutional racism that exists in our systems and structures. We cannot allow this moment to define us as a society and as a nation. It is our responsibility to work to abolish racism on a personal, structural, and institutional level beginning in our schools and colleges. It is our responsibility to have these conversations at the dinner table and in our places of worship. This is not a time for us to look away, but to confront for the sake of a fair, just, and equitable future for all students. The past 11 weeks have shined an even brighter light on the divide, and we have seen, firsthand, that our black students and educators experience schools and the pandemic differently than many, if not most, of our white students and educators. Saying #BlackLivesMatter isn’t enough. Together, we must continue the call for justice and to hold powerful people, and each other, accountable. We must come together to stop the chorus of hate and fear and utilize our people power, both personally and at the ballot box. https://www.cta.org/our-a/social-justice/black-lives-matter
