We love growing a little bit of everything, but this year our family garden has been attracting some extra special attention. Some of our globe artichokes have gone to flower, and the bees couldn’t be happier! We love eating them, but they are great as ornamentals as well. It's been official for some time now, but with harvest getting closer it's probably time to formally announce our rebrand. Wil-Ker-Son Ranch is now Wilson Family Farm! We will still be marketing under the Country Comfort label for most of our produce, but keep your eyes open for Wilson Family Farm products as well.

Spring to a farmer: the sky is the limit!

Apparently, it’s National Agricultural Day. Personally, I’m not sure it’s reasonable to carve off a whole day to recognize the 1.5% of our population who someho...w manage to feed 300 million people three times a day. Seems like two or three days would be more appropriate. Hell, maybe a whole week. I’ve been thinking today, not just of the farmers who keep me fed, but of the ranchers as well. Right now, thousands of people are going through a kind of hell that’s hard to comprehend. The fires in Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and Colorado are being called The Katrina of the High Plains. I have friends in Kansas who told me they spent much of last week shooting their livestock putting countless maimed cows and steers out of their unspeakable misery. Why this hasn’t dominated the national headlines is equally baffling. The sacrifices made by the people who feed us are too numerous to list, and beyond my ability to articulate. Paul Harvey got it right though, back in 1978, when he addressed The Future Farmers of America. Dodge turned his remarks into a commercial, but it’s still worth a listen, no matter what you drive

Everyone in our industry knows that the proposed California ag overtime law will put less money in the pockets of farm workers and drive more farms out of our state. I'm proud to defend California agriculture. I will continue to advocate for our great industry in the face of any and all opposition. Our industry produces the safest, most abundant food supply in the world, even while it is under attack from our state government. See more

The vote on #AB1066 has been pushed off until Monday, but it will probably pass. The end result will be less hours for farm workers - which will result in lower... pay for them. Yet another misguided effort that will have unintended consequences. California already has overtime provisions for farm workers. See more
