When Clara Vera Wheelock was born on July 28, 1877, in Cheboygan, Michigan, her father, Daniel, was 43, and her mother, Jane, was 46. She married Hiram Tallman on October 3, 1894, in her hometown. They had 11 children in 21 years. She died on April 30, 1968, in her hometown at the age of 90, and was buried there.
