MAZ DOLL He said, I’ve always wanted a boy doll to go with my girl doll - do you have any boy dolls? Yes, but he doesn’t have any arms and I don’t know where he is. AND I always intended for him to have an inlaid circle, but could never decide the perfect solution. Then we moved the studio from West Adams to Northridge, and in the unpacking process the boy that was found! MAZ and I started collaborating: Photos revealed that his girl doll had a silver disc engraved WE...IR 1972. That was odd, because I never signed the little dolls and used the silver discs only on larger pieces, lambs, elephants and rocking horses. BUT I found small packages of unused engraved silver discs, which I stopped using after GREGORY and I were married in 1973 and we both changed our names to WEIR-QUITON. It was the perfect solution for the guy doll! Now we just had to update the arms to match. I love making things I love collaborating with people I love playing with woods and I love playing with words THANK YOU @savedbymaz for commissioning a really fun quarantine project and for allowing me time to play with him before he ships out to you. It’s been a joy to work with you! MERRY XMAZ

PAMELACMA TODAY I AM DELIGHTED TO ANNOUNCE THE CHERRY ON THE TOP OF MY 75TH BIRTHDAY ... SLOOPY, My first 6’ doll chest of drawers, and my original pair of little dolls, are now part of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art Permanent Collection, HOW DID THIS HAPPEN? It all began at Cal State Northridge with my Wood Instructor, Ralph K. Evans, and Eudorah Moore, the California Design visionary. It concluded with a retrospective at Craft In America in 2018, where the LACMA Decorative Arts and Design curators viewed the exhibit. IN BETWEEN, there were 50 years of doing what I LOVE: FUNCTIONAL WOOD SCULPTURE. My deepest gratitude to everyone who has been a part of this ADVENTURE - LIFE IS A PLAYGROUND!
