The Weed Peace Officers' Association hosted their 15th annual Shop with A Cop event on December 18th. The event is often highly anticipated by those who participate and there was much discussion over how some type of modified event could be held to keep the tradition alive. In the end, the members of the association decided that purchasing the gifts themselves, without taking the children to the stores, would be the best option. Weed Police Department officers, dispatchers... and community service officers were given the names of children selected as participants from Weed Elementary School. The department members used their off-duty time, taking funds donated from the community, to shop for the students based on information provided along with the name. The gifts were wrapped and brought to the Police Department for delivery. A couple of days before delivery, Weed Elementary chose to switch to distance learning as a precautionary measure. An adjustment was made to then have officers make home deliveries as the students would not be at the school. In the end, the event was held despite the current pandemic. With the modifications and precautions, the Weed Peace Officers’ Association was able to present eight children with gifts for themselves and their loved ones. The Weed Police Officers Association would like to thank the Weed citizens for the donations to keep this tradition alive.
Another successful year in the books. This year the Weed Community Christmas Basket supplied 150+ boxes to people in need for the holiday. 31 of the boxes were delivered to the seniors with the help of the Weed Community Center senior bus. We would like to thank everyone who donated and all the volunteers for your time.
