TODAY is PEACE OFFICERS MEMORIAL DAY. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. THANK YOU to the fine men and women who serve to protect us every day! We would also like to honor our three fallen heroes Arthur McDonald E.O.W 09-26-1929, John Mueller Seller E.O.W 07-24-1972, Floyd "Bernie" Harold Swartz E.O.W 05-03-1980. #NationalPoliceWeek #NeverForget #PeaceOfficersMemorialDay

Recently, as many of you know, a youtuber recorded portions of an interaction with Pinole police officers and posted the video on YouTube, causing some questions and concerns by our residents. With this in mind, we created the following video with the intention of clarifying the laws and regulations that we, as police, are required to act on; while simultaneously providing our community members with the relevant information they need to make informed decisions regarding inc...idents such as this. Please see prior post for full statement. ***For clarification the subject was detained in handcuffs for approximately five minutes, the entire duration of detainment was approximately 20 minutes. https://youtu.be/aazcJKfNjc0

On 11/8/20, Officers responded to the parking lot of Staples in response to an alert citizen who called the police for a suspicious vehicle seen driving in the area possibly casing the stores and parked cars. The area the vehicle was seen in has been an active area for shoplifting and vehicle break-ins. Officers arrived and located the vehicle which turned out to be a reported stolen vehicle. Officers observed an occupant exit the vehicle and walk away. The occupant was arrested and found to have a loaded concealed revolver pistol along with burglary tools. The occupant was also found to be a convicted felon. The vehicle was returned to it's owner and another firearm was taken off of the streets. Great job Officers Roberts and Delgado!

The Pinole Police Department was made of aware of an incident involving several members of the department before a Bay Area Transparency video was posted. An official review was initiated at that time; to include all body worn camera footage, reports, and the original call for service. Now that the Bay Area Transparency video footage has been posted, we will be able to add another layer of review in this process. As with any official personnel matter, we will not be providing... further comment at this time. We respect the right of all citizens to conduct these 1st Amendment audits, as it provides us an ability to evaluate our current practices and training and assists in identifying growth opportunities for improvement. Chief Gang would like to offer an invitation to have a sit-down conversation with Bay Area Transparency to discuss this situation further. We appreciate your understanding and patience as the process takes its course.

Providing the best equipped and best trained public servants to serve the community of Pinole is our #1 priority. We are excited to announce that SILKed (Social Intelligence Latent Kinetics education) will be on-site training all our supervisors and Command Staff this week as Pinole PD will be the first agency in California to undergo this training. Their training takes a radically new approach to successful people strategy and understanding human communication. Revealing t...he power and importance of soft skills, they provide an innovative, immediately useable, social/emotional intelligence strategy that is focused on non-verbal communication, de-escalation, unconscious bias, and mental health. It is a fresh, forward-thinking, and intuitively rational approach to understanding human communication and the behaviors, that are scientifically proven to create trust and rapport with our community.
