As much as I love #KWFamilyReunion, the last day is always my favorite. The morning gets started with a "prayer of the faiths" honoring the diversity of our agent-partners by having representatives across the nation share their faith in a prayer of their choice. And then we dive into Inspirational Morning- all about how our Associates have changed lives in their respective communities around the world. This year, I am more moved than ever before. My good friend Sofia Chacon... once shared the quote "Empires rise and fall due to lack of a conversation." That Is something that has stuck with me and that I see demonstrated again and again by our company as Gary Keller has continued to show his leadership by running towards the difficult conversations. This morning session "Paving a Path Toward Progress" discussed equity. You all know I love numbers and statistics and yet it pained me to hear the statistic shared this morning- We’ve had the fair housing act for 50 years and here, 50 years later, the percentage of black people that own homes is less than it was in 1968. Gary Keller said in his commentary this morning that he admits that in the past, he hadn't done all he could to be openly, actively ANTI-racist and he acknowledged that it is not just critical to SAY something, but to DO something. He was transparent, open, honest, and the integrity of the conversation was powerful. I also appreciate that he allowed Realtors of color to LEAD the conversation, share the stats, their thoughts, their feelings and what we can do as a company to always do better. I am incredibly honored to be part of a company that is taking action to truly, quantitatively create "opportunities for all". #BetOnRed #KWSELA

One of my agent-partners brought me this flag today in honor of Election Day and it inspired me to reflect on the history of the American Flag and what it means to me.... The stripes represent the original 13 Colonies and the stars represent the 50 states of the Union. The colors of the flag are symbolic as well; red symbolizes hardiness and valor, white symbolizes purity and innocence, and blue represents vigilance, perseverance and justice. I remember standing under this... flag as a child, while my Nina recited the Pledge of Allegiance as she gained her citizenship... and later having that same experience with my dad. I remember my mom having it hanging outside our front door, proudly, right across from an equally beautiful red, white and green Mexican flag. I remember this flag blowing in the breeze on Ellis Island when I found my grandfather's name engraved on the Wall of Honor and I remember this flag hanging in the polling station the first time I ever had the opportunity to vote during the historic election of this Nation's first Black President.... For some, this flag is a symbol of freedom and independence... For the valiant veterans who have fought our wars to keep us safe - including some of my family. For some, it's a symbol of opportunity and the promise of a better future - the American dream. For some, it's a painful reminder of a painful past... a history that sometimes selectively remembers and forgets. For me - this flag is a reminder of a country built on the backbones of dreamers and crafted by the work-worn hands of immigrants throughout the centuries. Of a history, that while sometimes painful, is evidence that we are learning and growing. Of diversity. Of the 'Golden Door' Emma Lazarus spoke of in her sonnet at the base of the Statue of Liberty. Of a brighter future - one in which I have the choice to participate in the Democratic process and use my voice to vote... But also to make change in my own world through my actions every single day - actions to promote kindness and education and growth, empathy and equity.
