Workout Wednesday Did you know that @myglendaleparks has an ADA Accessible Trail? Located in the San Rafael Hills, the "Mountain Do" Trail ca...n be accessed via the Glendale Sports Complex. The trail also includes two rest areas where walkers and the mobility impaired can move off the trail into landscaped areas containing appropriate native plantings, benches, picnic tables, ADA accessible outdoor fitness equipment, and interpretive signage. Creation of these rest areas required the placement of three bridges across an existing cement drainage channel, as well as brush clearance and a minimal amount of grading. Minimal grading was also required on a small portion of the trail to reduce the running slope and bring it into compliance with U.S. Access Board standards. https://www.glendaleca.gov//park-plannin/mountain-do-trail #parksmakelifebetter

Verdugo Mountains 10K Trail Run & Hike I have been part of Verdugo 10K mountain and hike race for the past two years which has helped me to stay motivated to keep fit. Unfortunately this year because of covid-19 the race was canceled and I decided to run by myself from my house to the brand park and back on the day of the race. My wife, daughters and neighbors surprised me with setting up a finish line! I miss my Verdugo 10 k running team and trainers. Here is the highlights of quarantine 10k run.

A countywide curfew has been issued by County of Los Angeles, this curfew applies to Glendale. Curfew starts at 6pm on 6/2 and ends 6am on 6/3. COVID-19 UPDATE Community Services & Parks Closures Effective March 24, 2020 No Group Congregation at Parks and Park Facilities. Social Distancing Required.... In order to protect the health and safety of our community and in accordance with guidance from State and local health officials to prevent the spread of COVID-19, Community Services & Parks has implemented the changes below: All trails and fire roads are closed until further notice. All sports and recreation areas closed until further notice. This includes, but is not limited to playgrounds, picnic table and shelters, fitness equipment areas, basketball courts, skate parks, all fields (baseball, soccer, softball, multi-purpose), tennis courts, pickleball courts, volleyball. Scholl Canyon Golf Course operated by American Golf closed until further notice. All park buildings and indoor facilities are closed to the public until further notice, including community centers, community buildings, Verdugo Job Center, gyms, computer labs, multi-purpose rooms, aquatics center. All events and rentals are cancelled. New reservations are suspended until further notice. All recreation programs and classes are suspended/cancelled until further notice, including sports leagues, aquatics classes, instructional classes (contract classes), drop-in programs, recreation activities. But sadly, due to the unprecedented impact that COVID-19 has had on all of us, the City of Glendale has been given no choice but to cancel this year’s event in order to protect the health of our community.... We’ll have to wait until next year to celebrate our 10th Anniversary. Race day has already been set May 2, 2021. We hope you can join us, and we’ll let you know the minute registration is open. Our hearts go out to all of you who have been training for our event - no one shares your passion more than we do. Look at the bright side: you’ve just been given an extra 365 days to get in the best shape of your life for the 2021 Verdugo Mountains 10K! We look forward to seeing you, and celebrating with you, on May 2, 2021. Thank you for your passion, your dedication, and your understanding.

With deepest sorrow, we announce the loss of a member of our Verdugo Mountains 10K family. Marc Stirdivant, original codirector, founder, and guiding force of the VM10K, passed away earlier this week. Without Marc, the VM10K would not exist. His direction and guidance turned the dreams of a Glendale trail race into reality. Marc’s passion and dedication to trails and open space improved our community in ways that will be felt for generations to come. He truly left this world a better place than he found it.
