The World Games in Birmingham, Alabama moves to July 2022 POSTED BY: JOHN MARTIN 2ND APRIL 2020 The International World Games Association (IWGA) and Birmingham ...Organising Committee (BOC) have agreed to postpone the 11th edition of The World Games until 7th to 17th July 2022. The Games had originally been planned to take place from 1525 July next year. The IWGA and BOC considered this in the light of the postponement of the 2020 Olympics to 2021. It soon became clear that only one 10-day period existed in which venues, accommodation and key partner support could be guaranteed: 717 July 2022. The IWGA Member Federations with sports on the programme, including the ILS, gave their full support to delaying The World Games, and the joint decision of the IWGA and BOC Boards to adopt these new dates was unanimously approved by the federations in a video conference today. The ILS is pleased to support this change of date to 2022 and thanks the IWGA and BOC for their prompt action to resolve this issue. The ILS Sport Commission will now consider the implications of this relating to the qualification process that will need to be adopted, once the rescheduling of the Lifesaving World Championships 2020 has been confirmed. Further announcements about this will be made when it is appropriate.

Impact of the Coronavirus on the ILS events The ILS is aware of the developing position in Northern Italy, it is continuously monitoring the situation, and in r...egular contact with our colleagues in the host organisation, FIN, about the controls being put in place by the Italian Authorities, which will determine any actions to be taken. At this time there are no impacts foreseen on the hosting of the LWC 2020 Championships in September in Riccione. U19 High Performance Squad Application All members of the USLA under the age of 19 as of December 31, 2020, are invited to apply to join the USLA High Performance Squad (U19-HPS). The U19-HPS is meant to form a pool of athletes that want to enhance their surf lifesaving sport skills in hopes of gaining a spot on the U19 National Team. The U19 National Team competes in international competitions, this year focusing on the World Lifesaving Championships to be held in Riccione, ...Italy, September 18 - October 5, 2020 (exact U19 dates TBD). Selected athletes will receive workouts, coaching and the opportunity to attend special camps set up to improve the team's overall performance in international competition. Athletes in the U19-HPS must be disciplined to carry on training alone, must be exemplary members of their junior guard or guard programs and should be prepared to represent the USLA and USA when invited.
